Fresh from their first league win of the season, West Ham will host Norwich City at the London Stadium on Saturday.
West Ham’s first game of the season was against champions Manchester City, and it ended in a humiliating 5-0 loss. In the next game, they claimed a 1-1 draw with Brighton to get their first points on the board. Last week they traveled to face Watford and won 3-1. Mark Noble gave them an early lead with a penalty, but Andre Gray equalized soon for the home side. But new signing Sebastien Haller scored twice to give his side their first win of the season.Embed from Getty Images
Haller was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for £45 million by Manuel Pellegrini, and it paid off against Watford. His first goal was a tap in and his second was a spectacular overhead kick which killed the game for West Ham. It looks as though Pellegrini has found his best eleven. The trio of Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini, and Andriy Yarmolenko lined up behind Haller at Vicarage Road.
West Ham played Newport County on Tuesday in an EFL Cup tie, and they managed to win 2-0 despite putting out a second-string side. Jack Wilshere and new signing Pablo Fornals got the goals for the Hammers. Michail Antonio suffered a thigh injury and against Newport and he is ruled out for the Norwich game. Striker Javier Hernandez is also a doubt to feature against the Canaries but Haller’s brace last time will mean that he won’t be missed as much.
Promoted Norwich City have certainly made an impression three games into the new season. They lost their first game at Anfield in a heavy loss, but their style of play impressed many. That style reaped material gains when they beat Newcastle 3-1 in their first home game of the season. Striker Teemu Pukki scored a hat-trick in that game. Pukki scored against the Blues as well, which took his tally for the season to five goals. He is at the top of the Golden Boot charts right now with Raheem Sterling. Norwich have continued with the style of play which saw them finish first in the Championship last season. They have had no problems scoring goals, and only Liverpool and Manchester City have netted more so far. But that has come at a cost as they have conceded eight goals in that time.
They have no major injuries to deal with, but Timm Klose suffered a severe injury in the cup tie defeat against Crawley Town on Tuesday. Aside from him, manager Daniel Farke has no worries in that department.
West Ham United vs Norwich City Betting Tips
Norwich have looked leaky at the back, and West Ham have not looked convincing either. We should see over 2.5 goals in this game, and both sides should score as well. The result is a tough one to call, but West Ham will be the slight favorites to pick up the win.
