This has the billings of being the game of Round 9 of the NBL 2019-20 as the No.1 and No.3 teams of the season square-off. Sydney Kings have been the true kings of this season of the NBL and are sitting pretty at the top of the points table with 10 wins and 1 loss. However, their only loss came against Melbourne United – their opponents for the December 1 clash – in Round 5. Melbourne United have had a really good season so far and are 3rd on the points table with 7 wins and 4 losses.
After their loss to Melbourne United on the road, the Sydney Kings have won 4 games in a row and are looking the strongest team in the tournament. However, Melbourne United too has registered 6 wins a row and look to be in great shape. Thus, sparks will fly when Sydney hosts Melbourne United in this all-important Round 9 clash.
Will Weaver’s Sydney Kings has plenty of players in form and will be confident of putting up a superb show at home. Casper Ware (20.73 PPG) is coming off a splendid match against the Phoenix where he shot 25 points. The forward has been the star player for Sydney this season and will be confident of continuing his great form. Jae’Sean Tate (15.82 PPG) and Kevin Lisch (13.5 PPG) are the other two players who can have an impact on the game.
For Melbourne United, this will be a tough round as they travel from Cairns to Sydney in a short time. But Melbourne has plenty of bankable stars to count who have been consistently performing for them throughout the season. Melo Trimble (22 PPG) has been the best performer for the team and will be yet again leading the way. Guard Chris Goulding (19.5 PPG) and Shawn Long (19.18 PPG) should continue their great work.
Both Trimble and Goulding were responsible for Melbourne’s win over the Kings in Round 5 and they could prove to be game-changers again.
Sydney Kings vs Melbourne United Betting Tips
Both Sydney Kings and Melbourne United have held their opponents for under 100 points in their past three matches. Interestingly, Sydney Kings’s Points Per Game this season has been 93.64 while it is 99.74 for Melbourne United.
This should hence be a very close contest with both teams trying their best to not give an inch. It is likely to be a low-scoring game with the total points scored to be in the range of 180-190.
While it is true that the Kings have now lost 3 games in a row to United (including the last 2 games of the 2018-19 season), they are still the top side of this season. It would be foolish to disregard their form and home advantage.
This is a very tough game to call as Melbourne United could still continue their winning streak. However, we are backing Sydney Kings as the winners of this contest and establish their top spot.
