Match Details: Saturday, January 4th, Qudos Bank Arena, 9:00 UTC
The battle between the No.1 and No.5 teams this Saturday might be the highlight of Round 14. Sydney Kings, while being at the 1st position in the standings, haven’t been in the greatest form in the last couple of weeks. They will be hosting Adelaide 36ers, who are 5th on the points table with 9 wins and 10 losses.
The two teams have met twice in NBL 2019-20 and Sydney emerged victorious on both the occasions. In fact, the last time Sydney hosted Adelaide back in October 2019, they handed them a 102:80 drubbing.
Despite the inconsistent run they are having at the moment, Sydney should have the edge for this game.
The Kings haven’t been their best selves of late. After losing 85:98 to the Perth Wildcats at home, Sydney followed it up with a worse performance by being thumped 85:80 by 9th placed Illawarra Hawks on the road. That loss would have really upset the table-toppers and they would be desperate to get back in rhythm in Round 14.
For the Kings, the good thing was that Jae’sean Tate, Shaun Bruce and Daniel Kickert were the highest scorers in the last game. However, the team hasn’t been scoring well below their Points Per Game average of 93.42 in the last couple of games which needs to be addressed. A solid performance from star players Casper Ware and Brad Newley is needed badly.
The 36ers will be delighted with their 100:97 win on New Year’s Day against the Perth Wildcats. They have been up and down all season and beginning the New Year on a positive note is a good sign for the team. That, however, doesn’t change the fact that they have lost 3 of their last 5 games. Round 14 is vital for them if they want to get into the top 4.
Eric Griffin top-scored for the team in the last match with 24 points and was supported ably by Anthony Drmic. However, the 36ers would need their best player of the season, Jerome Randle, to be on top gear along with Daniel Johnson to take down a top side like Sydney.
Sydney Kings vs Adelaide 36ers: NBL Betting Tips
Sydney Kings will hold the home-court advantage in this game against Adelaide 36ers. That being said, Adelaide is coming off a confidence-boosting victory against 2nd placed Perth and Sydney has lost two games in a row. Moreover, Sydney has scored less than 90-points in three of their last five matches while Adelaide’s Points Per Game average this season is the second-best.
Thus, the underdog might well triumph in this encounter. However, we still expect the Sydney Kings to come back hard in this home game and clinch a win.
