After winning the ODI series 3-0, Sri Lanka will now be moving to the two-match T20I series against the West Indies at home. Sri Lanka completed a clean-sweep in the ODIs after a humdinger of a final ODI which they won by just 6 runs. They will thus be flying high on confidence. However, West Indies are a different best in the T20I format and will certainly pose a bigger challenge in this series.
Sri Lanka Match Form
The home team has got good talent and depth in their squad. They will be led by the mercurial Lasith Malinga again who should be leading from the front as the frontline bowler. The likes of Avishka Fernando, Thisara Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella and Shehan Jayasuriya are all capable of playing impactful knocks in the format.
On the bowling side, Nuwan Pradeep, who was excellent in the ODI series, will again be leading the bowling unit here. Wanindu Hasaranga caused trouble to the West Indian batsmen and he will again be watched out for. Angelo Mathews is getting into great shape and will be a great option in the middle overs.
West Indies Match Form
West Indies are always a dangerous force in T20Is. In Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Lendl Simmons, and captain Kieron Pollard, they have a destructive batting lineup. The return of Andre Russell will really bolster their batting as he can take the game away single-handily. Fabian Allen or Dwayne Bravo down the order can both play useful cameos.
While Sheldon Cottrell will be leading their bowling, West Indies have plenty of options in Oshane Thomas, Hayden Walsh Jr, Kesrick Williams, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo.
Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 1st T20I: Cricket Betting Tips
The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is expected to produce another great T20I surface filled with plenty of runs for the 1st T20I between Sri Lanka and West Indies. Batsmen will have a great time on this surface but spinners can find some grip and turn later on in the innings.
The highest total achieved on this venue is a massive 263-3 by Australia against Sri Lanka in 2016. We can expect another high-scoring encounter in this game with the total number of runs scored being between 380-400.
Sri Lanka will enjoy the home advantage and will know how to make use of the wicket. Their spinners, especially, will come into play if the surface grips. However, the power and destructive force in the West Indian batting might just be too much for them to handle. This is the format they thrive in and expect the West Indies to show their power play and secure a win in the first T20I.
