Bologna will hope to get back to winning ways when they visit the Stadio Paolo Mazza to take on SPAL on Saturday in the Serie A.
Bologna Match Form
Since the turn of the year, Bologna have failed to pick up a win in three attempts. They drew the first game against Fiorentina before losing 1-0 to Torino. Bologna dominated the possession in both the games. But the opposition was clinical and did Bologna harm. Riccardo Orsolini came up with a stoppage-time equalizer to rescue a point against Fiorentina. In their last game, Bologna faced Verona on their home turf.
Mattia Bani opened the scoring for Bologna, but he got sent off in the second half. Verona capitalized and stole a point through Fabio Borini’s goal. Bologna are 12th in the table, and they have no real relegation threat at the moment. Brescia in 18th place are nine points below them. However, they have little chance to get into the European places as well. Bologna finished 10th last season and an improvement on that would be welcome for coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
Bologna’s attack has been one of their strong points this season. They have scored 29 league goals in 20 appearances, which is more than most sides around them in the table. However, they have scored just twice in the last three games, which is a worry. Both Riccardo Orsolini and Rodrigo Palacio have scored twice in the league for Bologna this season. Goal have come from numerous sources, which is a good sign for the coming weeks.
SPAL Match Form
SPAL will be their opponents, who are in a relegation scrap. They are 18th in the table, one point adrift of safety. However their recent form is better than expected, and they have won twice in the last four league outings. SPAL faced Atalanta on Monday and they went into the game as heavy underdogs. Atalanta took an early lead through Josip Ilicic, and the game was going like many expected.
But Andrea Petagna scored to make it 1-1 and Mattia Valoti netted what turned out to be the eventual winner soon after. Despite having 42% possession, they had the same number of shots on target as their opponents. Atalanta are one of the best attacking teams in the division, and it was an impressive display from SPAL. They had not scored as well in the three games before that, and it was a welcome change of outcome.
SPAL have won two of their last four meetings with Bologna, and one has ended in a draw. All four of those games saw less than 2.5 goals in total and games between these two are tight. Bologna won the last time they met, courtesy of a 1-0 win in August.
SPAL vs Bologna Betting Tips
They will be the favorites this time as well. Bologna should get a close win to get the three points. The total goals should be under 2.5 in the game, and SPAL will find it hard to score.
