Roberson scored 30 points for Phoneix, and he was the highest scorer for either team on the night. Four of Phoenix’s starters were in double figures, and it was a great team performance. Coach Simon Mitchell must be pleased with his side’s start to the season. The SEM franchise is new, but their players have prior experience. The likes of Creek and Roberson are veterans, and their inputs will be crucial for Phoenix in their debut season.
The Hawks have played thrice so far this season, but have only won one of those games. They faced the Brisbane Bullets in the first game and succumbed to a 90-81 loss. Aaron Brooks top-scored with 23 points for Illawarra, but that performance was in vain in the end. In the second game, the Hawks suffered a worse defeat. Defending champions Perth Wildcats inflicted a 103-76 defeat upon them. Only three players were in double figures for the Hawks. LaMelo Ball was one of them, and he had 15 points and 8 assists.Embed from Getty Images
The Hawks got their first win of the season on their third attempt when they beat the Taipans 89-88. Todd Blanchfield, Aaron Brooks, and Andrew Ogilvy combined for 58 points to hand their side a close win. Ball had 9 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds in the game. The victory will hand them confidence ahead of the game against Phoenix.
The first three games have seen the Hawks struggle on the offensive end. They have shot well from the field, but have not created enough opportunities to shoot from. The onus will be upon the creative players to step up in the coming games.
