South East Melbourne vs Illawarra Hawks – National Basketball League Betting Tips and Preview

South Eastern Melbourne Phoenix will look to keep their winning run going when they host the Illawarra Hawks on Saturday at 09:00 UTC time.

In their debut season in the competition, Phoenix have started the season really well. Their opening two games have brought two wins, and they are among the three unbeaten sides in the league. Phoenix faced neighbors Melbourne United in their first game. Melbourne reached the final last season, but they came up short against Phoenix who claimed a 91-88 win. Mitch Creek had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Phoenix.

Aside from Creek, John Roberson and Kyle Adnam were the only other players in double figures. The Phoneix led by nine points going into the third quarter. Even though United mounted a comeback in the last period, Phoenix held on for the win. Their second win came by a much more significant margin. SEM beat the Brisbane Bullets 113-93 to record a comprehensive victory in their second game. Creek starred again, and he had 25 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds.

Roberson scored 30 points for Phoneix, and he was the highest scorer for either team on the night. Four of Phoenix’s starters were in double figures, and it was a great team performance. Coach Simon Mitchell must be pleased with his side’s start to the season. The SEM franchise is new, but their players have prior experience. The likes of Creek and Roberson are veterans, and their inputs will be crucial for Phoenix in their debut season.

The Hawks have played thrice so far this season, but have only won one of those games. They faced the Brisbane Bullets in the first game and succumbed to a 90-81 loss. Aaron Brooks top-scored with 23 points for Illawarra, but that performance was in vain in the end. In the second game, the Hawks suffered a worse defeat. Defending champions Perth Wildcats inflicted a 103-76 defeat upon them. Only three players were in double figures for the Hawks. LaMelo Ball was one of them, and he had 15 points and 8 assists.

The Hawks got their first win of the season on their third attempt when they beat the Taipans 89-88. Todd Blanchfield, Aaron Brooks, and Andrew Ogilvy combined for 58 points to hand their side a close win. Ball had 9 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds in the game. The victory will hand them confidence ahead of the game against Phoenix.

The first three games have seen the Hawks struggle on the offensive end. They have shot well from the field, but have not created enough opportunities to shoot from. The onus will be upon the creative players to step up in the coming games.
