SA vs England 3rd Test Match Preview
The 2nd Test between South Africa and England at Cape Town turned out to be a fascinating contest that was a great advocate for the format. England bounced back after the loss in the 1st Test to win the second match by 189 runs on the final day. The 4-match series is now tied 1-1 and the second half of the series promises to be riveting.
South Africa Match Form
After registering a terrific win in the 1st Test, South Africa slipped in the second game and have some issues to sort out. Their batting is heavily dependent on Dean Elgar, skipper Faf du Plessis, and Quinton de Kock. Rassie van der Dussen’s 68 in the 1st innings was positive but they would need the rest of the batting unit to step up.
The home team’s bowling has been pretty good with everyone being among the wickets. Kagiso Rabada is leading the attack and is being ably supported by Vernon Philander, Anrich Nortje, Keshav Maharaj and Dwaine Pretorius. However, they would need to put up an even better performance now since their batting unit is struggling.
England Match Form
England would be delighted with their performance in the 2nd Test, especially after the way they lost the first match. It was a proper team performance with plenty of heroes. Ben Stokes’ brilliant all-round show, James Anderson’s terrific five-wicket haul, skipper Joe Root’s patient fifty and Dominic Sibley outstanding hundred were the highlights for the team in this Test.
There are others like Ollie Pope, Sam Curran and Stuart Broad who have contributed to the win as well. England thus has good balance with both the bat and the ball and looks strong enough to repeat their heroics from the last Test again.
South Africa vs England 3rd Test Cricket Betting Tips
St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth – the venue for the 3rd Test between South Africa and England – is a good Test pitch that assists both bowlers and batsmen. The highest total achieved here is 549-7 by Australia. However, the pitch isn’t a batting paradise and the average 1st innings batting score here is 301 and it falls down drastically to 159 in the final innings.
Thus, we can expect a fascinating contest between bat and ball in this game. If the team batting first can score more than 350 runs, then they will have the advantage as batting last on this pitch will be a tough ask. Seam bowlers should definitely get a purchase from the wicket.
England will be the more confident side going into the third Test. They seem more balanced and have players performing in all departments. South Africa will have the home advantage but their batting is quite frail. Unless the home team can put up a strong united show, England is likely to win the 3rd Test match.
