- Match: South Africa vs England, 2nd T20I, England tour of South Africa, 2019-20
- Date: Friday, February 14, 2020
- Time: 04:00 PM GMT
- Venue: Kingsmead, Durban
The first T20I between South Africa and England at East London turned out to be a classic T20 thriller. Chasing a target of 178, England were well on their way to victory when they needed just a run a ball from the last seven deliveries of their innings and had five wickets in hand.
However, they botched it up and couldn’t cross the line by just one run. South Africa thus leads the 3-match series 1-0 and will head into the 2nd game at Durban with the hope of sealing a series win.
South Africa Match Form
South Africa were terrific in patches in the first match. They started off incredibly well and were 105-1 in 10 overs at one point. However, a scratchy middle-order performance led them finish on 177-8. Temba Bavuma top-scored with 41 and skipper Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen contributed 31 each. However, the others in the batting order couldn’t deliver. It is time for David Miller and JJ Smuts to step up and only then will the Proteas be able to make a solid impact with the bat.
It was South Africa’s bowling that saved them the match. Dale Steyn made a decent return to international cricket with 1-33. Lungi Ngidi, however, was the star and rocked England with 3-30. Andile Phehlukwayo and leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi too did an excellent job. If this bowling unit can repeat the performance in the second game, then the Proteas will be hard to beat.
England Match Form
England could have well ended with a win in the first game. However, a muddled middle-order approach cost them the match. Barring opener Jason Roy (70 off 38 balls) and captain Eoin Morgan (52 off 34 balls), the middle-order just collapsed. They still have great batting depth and the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Joe Denly and Ben Stokes can take down any team on their day.
The bowling was a mixed bag for England. They started off poorly but managed to pull things back brilliantly. Spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid were the stars for the team, conceding only 45 runs in 8 overs between them. Ben Stokes, Chris Jordan and Mark Wood too showed why they are great in this format and will be the team’s go-to bowlers in this series.
South Africa vs England 2nd T20I Cricket Betting Tips
The venue for the 2nd T20I between South Africa and England is Kingsmead, Durban. It has been a good batting surface in limited overs cricket and also provides great bounce for the seam bowlers. The average total batting first on this ground is 148. However, the highest total achieved on the venue is 218-4 by India versus England in 2007.
For this game, expect a true South African T20 surface. The team batting first would be targeting a score of around 170-180. It should be another close game with the total score in the match being around 350-360 runs.
South Africa would be delighted with the win the first game and will try their best to seal the series here. However, England will come hard. They have enough depth and talent in their ranks to topple the home side. Thus, back England to make a comeback in the 2nd T20I and level the series.
