- Date: Wednesday, February 12, 2020
- Time: 04:00 PM GMT
- Venue: Buffalo Park, East London
After the ODI series between South Africa and England wrapped up on 1-1, the two teams will now move to the T20I series. The first game of the 3-match T20I series begins on February 12 at East London. The two teams produced quite engaging contests in the ODI series and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the shortest format. This is South Africa’s best chance to score some morale-boosting wins.
South Africa Match Form
Like in the ODI series, South Africa’s batting would be greatly dependent on skipper Quinton de Kock here too. Heinrich Klaasen is another great talent who has been doing well in the format in recent times and may prove to be a game-changer for South Africa with his hard-hitting. David Miller got some valuable runs in the final ODI against England and this will keep him in good stead. The team would love to have a Miller cameo down the order.
On the bowling front, South Africa does have good options. Firstly, the return of Dale Steyn to the team would be a massive boost and the team would hope that the star fast bowler makes an impact. Another bowler to watch out for is leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and Dwaine Pretorius. If these bowlers click, then South Africa would give England a real challenge.
England Match Form
England has a solid batting unit that is led by skipper Eoin Morgan who is excellent in the format. Then there is the hard-hitting Jason Roy, along with Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow who can really destroy any bowling attack. All-rounder Ben Stokes too would play a crucial role for team like always.
The team’s bowling is well-settled. The injury to Jofra Archer is a blow but they still have a lot of variety. Chris Jordan is made for this format and his yorkers will be deadly. Mark Wood, Tom Curran and Ben Stokes provide further cushion while spinner Adil Rashid can be a real wicket-ticker in the middle-overs.
South Africa vs England 1st T20I Cricket Betting Tips
Buffalo Park in East London is a good T20 wicket. There have just been two T20I matches played here so far and the highest total achieved on the venue is 169-2 by New Zealand versus South Africa back in 2012. For the match between South Africa and England, we can expect a true T20 surface – one that is good for the batting but also produces bounce and movement to help the seamers.
The team batting first would be targeting a total of 170-180. And the total number of runs scored in the game could be around 350-360 runs.
South Africa will have the home advantage. However, England has more depth in all the departments and is a dangerous side. The Proteas will really have to bring their best to stop the batting might of England but it might prove to be difficult. Back England to clinch the first T20I.
