- Date: Wednesday, February 26, 2020
- Time: 04:00 PM GMT
- Venue: Newlands, Cape Town
The 2nd T20I between South Africa and Australia at Port Elizabeth turned out to be a classic as the Proteas clinched a stunning 12-run win to bounce back and level the series. Australia, while chasing a target of 159, were cruising at one stage but courtesy some terrific bowling by the home side, they faltered at the end. The series is now level 1-1 and the 3rd and final T20I at Cape Town on Wednesday will decide the winner.
South Africa Match Form
South Africa wasn’t at its best in the 2nd T20I. But they held their nerves and performed like a team towards the end to secure an important win. The stars for the team in the match were captain Quinton de Kock whose 70 off 47 balls helped set a respectable total and then lead bowler Kagiso Rabada whose 3-run over at the end choked Australia.
Rassie van der Dussen has looked in good touch too but South Africa would look for better contributions from Faf du Plessis, David Miller and Reeza Hendricks. On the bowling front, South Africa is looking really good. Apart from Rabada, leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi and Dwaine Pretorius have all performed well.
Australia Match Form
Australia will wonder how the last game slipped away from their hands. Despite David Warner’s unbeaten 67, the others simply couldn’t contribute enough. If captain Aaron Finch, Warner and Steven Smith don’t work at the top, the others like Alex Carey, Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Wade would have to take up more responsibility in this game.
Australia’s bowling is better but Mitchell Starc has been leaking runs which is a worry. However, Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson, and spinners Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar provide variety and have performed well. The team will expect them to do their best in the final match.
South Africa vs Australia, 3rd T20I Cricket Betting Tips
Newlands, Cape Town – the venue for the 3rd and final T20I between South Africa and Australia – is a very good T20 wicket. It is good for batting but also gives purchase to the seam bowlers and spinners. The average total batting first here is 149 but the highest total achieved on the venue is 192-6 by South Africa against Pakistan in 2019.
For this game, the team batting first would be targeting a total of 170-180 to feel safe.
Australia would be stung after the loss in the last match and would come hard. However, South Africa will have the home advantage. Moreover, they have been playing good T20I cricket of late, barring a few slips here and there. Expect a close encounter but back South Africa to win the 3rd T20I and seal the series.
