Parma will host defending champions Juventus at the Ennio Tardini in the first Serie A game of the season.
Juventus captured their eighth straight league title last season. Their domestic dominance has not waned one bit since the days of Antonio Conte. Massimiliano Allegri was the coach last season, and he won his fifth successive Scudetto. Allegri enjoyed a hugely successful time in Turin, but European success eluded him. He left the manager post after last season ended by his own accord. Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri will be the helm at Juventus for the coming season.
Despite claiming his first major honour at Chelsea last season, Sarri left London. He was in the Premier League for a single season. Before that, he was the Napoli manager, who lost to Juventus in a close title race two years ago. Sarri will hope that something similar happens this time. The Italian has a strong football philosophy which he will hope to implement in Turin. His Napoli side were a great unit to watch and with the quality of players at his disposal at Juve, we could be in for more of the same.
None other than Cristiano Ronaldo will headline those players. The Portuguese forward joined Juve from Real Madrid last season. He scored 21 league goals last season as Juventus romped to the title. But it is in defence where Juve have strengthened the most this summer. They signed Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax for a hefty fee. The former Ajax captain is a world-class defender at just 19 years of age. Aside from de Ligt, Juve have also signed Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot on free transfers.
As for Parma, their goals for the season would be vastly different. They escaped relegation at the end of last season in a close race that went till the very end. Parma were just 3 points above Empoli who were the last team to be relegated. Manager Roberto D’Aversa will hope to ensure that his side betters their performance this season.
Parma have not had a spectacular transfer window. Their manager signing has been striker Andrea Adorante from Inter. Inter got a player in return for Parma in the form of goalkeeper Gabriel Brazao. Parma’s spending this summer has been less than €16 million, which is a small sum by current standards.
Their most recent friendly was a 2-1 win over Sampdoria which would have given them a lot of confidence. Juventus have dominated Parma in recent times, and they have lost just once in their last 10 meetings. The previous encounter between these two sides ended in a draw. Parma would be delighted with the same outcome this time.
Parma vs Juventus Betting Tips
Despite playing away from home Juventus will be huge favorites to get the opening win. The match should contain more than 2.5 goals, and a clean sheet is also likely for Juventus. Parma’s defence was leaky last season, and Juventus should capitalize on that to get the three points.
