South East Melbourne Phoenix and Perth Wildcats have been the two top teams of the NBL 2019-20 season. But both had contrasting fortunes in the last two weeks. While S.E. Melbourne lost one and won one of their last two games, Perth has lost two and then come back to beat Sydney Kings in their last game in Round 10.
At the end of Round 9, S.E. Melbourne was 3rd on the standings with 6 wins and 5 losses and Perth Wildcats are 2nd on the table with 9 wins and 5 losses.
The two teams had clashed earlier in the season in October and Perth had registered a comfortable 110:79 at home.
The Phoenix will now be hosting the Wildcats in this important Round 10 fixture at the Melbourne Arena on December 8. The Phoenix will be looking to build on their impressive 110:95 win against the Brisbane Bullets. Since the victory came on the road, it would have given the team immense confidence and they would be happy to be back home to host a strong Perth side.
The Phoenix have had a topsy-turvy past few rounds. In the last 5 games they have played, they have lost 3 and won only 2 matches. Being one the top teams of the tournament, their inconsistency has been odd.
One thing that has been consistent for the Phoenix, however, is Mitchell Creek who has a superb stat of 21.36 PPG this season. Creek has been the standout star for the team and has regularly scored. Even in their terrific win against Brisbane last week, Creek’s 19 points were the second-highest of the game.
Point guard John Roberson and guard Ben Madgen are the other two key players for the Phoenix and would have a crucial part to play if they are to beat Perth here.
Meanwhile, Perth Wildcats would be relieved. After two back-to-back wins, they suffered two losses in a row. But then, they have registered a comprehensive 96:77 win against table-toppers Sydney Kings at the start of Round 10. They would now be looking to move up from the 2nd position.
Perth Wildcats have had several performers for them season and have been led by the charismatic Bryce Cotton. Terrico White and Nicholas Kay are the other two key players who would be the other players to watch out for in this game for Perth.
S.E.M Phoenix vs Perth Wildcats Betting Tips
The Perth Wildcats haven’t put up 100-points against an opponent since their last meet against South East Melbourne. They have clearly struggled in scoring regularly and that has affected their patchy performances.
Meanwhile, South East Melbourne has a very impressive Points Per Game of 97.55 which shows how well they have been scoring regularly. That being said, winning back-to-back games has proven to be difficult for South East Melbourne this season. Things will become even more interesting after Perth’s terrific win against Sydney.
Melbourne, though, will certainly enjoy the home advantage in this game. We can expect a close encounter as both teams are looking good but it would be prudent to back South East Melbourne Phoenix to win this game become of the home factor.
