Bottom side Watford will take on West Ham United at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday.
After a promising campaign last time, Watford have failed to replicate that in the early stages of this season. They have lost both their league games so far and are rooted to the bottom of the table. In contrast, they had won their first four league games last season for a stunning start. That form did peter down as they finished 11th at the end. The Hornets also reached the FA Cup final which was a great achievement for manager Javi Gracia. Manchester City beat them there to clinch the trophy, but that should not undermine Watford’s effort to reach that stage.
Gracia is into his second full season at the club and the expectations are high. His side impressed last time when they finished 11th. That was their best finish since they got promoted in 2015. They have had a new manager in each of the seasons until Gracia impressed enough to continue into his second campaign. Watford hosted Brighton in their first game this season and were beaten 3-0 by the Seagulls.
It was a poor display, and the home fans were not pleased. Watford traveled to Goodison Park for their next game as Everton claimed a narrow 1-0 win. It was a pretty even game, but an early goal from the Toffees was enough to inflict another defeat upon Watford. The pressure will be on the Hornets to pick up their first points of the season now.
West Ham are in a better place compared to Watford, but barely. They have picked up a point from their first two games. The Hammers are 16th in the table as it stands. They hosted Manchester City in their first game of the season. A clinical performance saw the defending champions dish out a 5-0 thrashing. West Ham recovered well to secure a 1-1 draw with Brighton in their next league game.
Javier Hernandez has scored their only goal of the season so far, and the onus will be on the Mexican in the coming weeks. Marko Arnautovic’s departure and Sebastien Haller’s injury means that Chicharito will lead the line for West Ham against Watford. Felipe Anderson is also a doubt for the Hammers, and he did not feature against Brighton.
The head to head record between the two is quite even. Their last four meetings have seen two wins for either side. West Ham claimed a 4-1 win in their last match which was played out at Vicarage Road. A similar result will be a massive boost for Manuel Pellegrini.
Watford vs West Ham Betting Tips
Despite being winless so far, Watford will be the favorites to pick up the win here. They should get the better of West Ham and get their first points of the season. The total goals should be over 2.5 in this game. West Ham won’t make it easy, but Watford will get their season back on track with a win.
