Match Info: FRIDAY FEBRUARY 28, 9:30PM RAC ARENA
Defending champions Perth Wildcats have made their way into the 2019/2020 NBL Semi-Finals with great aplomb. They were the second-placed team during the league stage and put up a great show. Perth will be now be hosting Cairns Taipans in the first leg of the semi-finals on February 28 at the RAC ARENA. The two teams will be meeting again in the second leg of the semi-finals when Cairns hosts Perth on 1st March.
Perth Wildcats Match Form
Perth has been in terrific form throughout the season and they especially got into good rhythm in the last couple of weeks where they ended up winning 4 out of the 5 games played. They are coming off three back-to-back victories and in their last match had defeated Adelaide 94:79 at home. They are thus in the perfect shape and form and are ready for the semi-finals.
For Perth, the main man to watch out would be Bryce Cotton who has had an outstanding season with a Points Per Game of 22.48. Then there is Terrico White, Nicholas Kay, Clint Steindl who have really stood out for Perth all season and are likely to be the biggest impact-makers in the semi-finals. If these four get going, then Perth is likely to be unstoppable.
Cairns Taipans Match Form
Cairns has showed traces of their brilliance throughout the season. They took out the best on their day and managed to retain the No.3 spot during the league stage. They do not have an array of superstars in their lineup but have managed to bring out their best as a unit.
However, Cairns will be concerned over their recent form – they are coming off two losses on the trot. In their last match, they were comprehensively thumped by Brisbane Bullets on the road, losing 88:124. In the game before that, they lost 83:99 against Melbourne United.
These are not good signs and Cairns will hope that the likes of DJ Newbill, Cameron Oliver, Scott Machado, and Majok Deng bring their best on the big day against a side like Perth.
Perth Wildcats vs Cairns Taipans NBL Semi-Finals Betting Tips
Perth Wildcats and Cairns Taipans have clashed thrice in the 2019-20 NBL season and interestingly, Cairns has won two of those games. The last time these two sides met in this season was in December 2019, where Perth managed a narrow 4-point win.
Things have changed a lot in the last few weeks and Perth has grown from strength to strength. Playing at home, they are a beast and also know how to win big games with their experience. In this game, we can expect a close contest with the total points scored being between 160-170.
Cairns may push Perth hard with their collective play. But expect the Wildcats to dominate and score the first win in this semi-final.
