- Match: Pakistan vs Bangladesh, 1st T20I, Bangladesh tour of Pakistan, 2020
- Date: Friday, January 24, 2020
- Time: 01:30 PM GMT
- Venue: Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
After much hullaballoo, Bangladesh’s tour to Pakistan has finally got the go ahead. The tour will commence with a 3-match T20I series beginning on January 24 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Pakistan will begin as favourites as they are playing at home. However, Bangladesh have shown many times over the years that they are no pushovers and will present a real challenge.
While Pakistan will have the home advantage, they would do well to remember that they were thrashed 0-3 in a T20I series at home by Sri Lanka recently. Captain Babar Azam has a good side at his disposal and would depend on his young guns to make an impact. The likes of Ahsan Ali, Khushdil Shah and Shadab Khan can be the surprise packages. However, the experience of Babar along with the veteran Mohammad Hafeez will lend stability to the side.
Pakistan’s bowling has great variety as usual and will be led by the young sensation Shaheen Afridi. Muhammad Musa and Mohammad Hasnain are exciting fast bowling prospects and it would be interesting to see how they perform. Imad Wasim’s leg-spin too will be handy on this surface.
Bangladesh are coming off a 1-2 T20I series loss against India recently. However, they will take confidence from the fact they managed their first ever T20I win against India in their own backyard. However, their most experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has opted out of the tour for personal reasons. Add to that the unavailability of their premier all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan as he is serving a ban and the team suddenly looks frail.
That being said, Bangladesh will be led by the talented Mahmudullah and will have able support in Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar. The return of the experienced and star opener Tamim Iqbal is the biggest boost for the team.
In the bowling department, the stars for Bangladesh are likely to be Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain. Barring them, Al-Amin Hossain too might come good. But the bowling side does look a little inexperienced with quite a few new faces like Hasan Mahmud, Aminul Islam and Afif Hossain.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh 1st T20I Cricket Betting Tips
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore – the venue for the 1st T20I between Pakistan and Bangladesh – is a good batting surface. Totals of 180-plus have been achieved on four occasions in 9 games with Pakistan’s 197-5 against World XI in 2017 being the highest.
The average first innings score on the venue is 165 and the team batting first would target a score of 170-180 to be safe. Expect the total number of runs in the match to be around 350-360.
Bangladesh is a confident team that will give a tough fight. However, without their two most experienced batsmen and their bowling lacking depth, they seem a little frail. Pakistan too have many fresh faces in their squad but they will have the home advantage and are being led by the in-form batting star Babar Azam. Expect Pakistan to clinch victory in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh.
