Olympiakos will host Anadolu Efes at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Thursday in the EuroLeague.
Anadolu have won four out of their six games in the EuroLeague but lost their last match in the competition. Panathinaikos beat them 86-70 to push them down to sixth in the table. Anadolu’s offence struggled in the game, and Shane Larkin was the only person who impressed. Larkin scored 28 points, but it was not enough in the end. Only two other players scored more than 10 points for Anadolu against Panathinaikos.
Despite the loss, Anadolu are in a good position to make the playoffs. They finished as runners-up last season, and a return to the final will be on the mind of coach Ergin Ataman. Anadolu have struggled on offence this season in the EuroLeague. Vasilije Micic has been the star, and he has averaged 16 points per game in the competition. In the Turkish League, they have continued to dominate. They are in second place right now, and in a strong position to defend their title. Anadolu have lost just one game on the domestic stage this season.
Micic and Larkin will be the key players for Anadolu against Olympiakos. In the six EuroLeague games so far, Anadolu have scored less than 80 points in half of them. Their defence has been impressive, which has enabled them to win games. A win against Olympiakos could put them level on points with the leaders if other results go their way.
Olympiakos are 14th in the table, with just two wins to their name. The second of those wins came against defending champions CSKA Moscow a week ago. Olympiakos claimed an 84-79 win at the home of CSKA, and it was an impressive result. Brandon Paul top-scored for them with 20 points in the game. Olympiakos were strong defensively, and they limited CSKA to just 41 points in the second half.
Their other win in the EuroLeague came against Valencia in October. Olympiakos narrowly missed the playoffs last season as they finished ninth in the regular season. They have started slowly in the Greek second division this time. After a controversial campaign last year, Olympiakos are last in the table after four games. They have won three out of four games, but a points penalty has deducted the points for those wins.
Olympiakos were demoted to the second division for this season after some disputes last season. The EuroLeague is a chance for salvation for them this season. However, the playoffs are not a certainty by any means at this stage. Coach Kestutis Kemzura will know that his side needs to improve on both sides of the court.
Olympiakos vs Anadolu Efes Prediction
Anadolu lost their last Euroleague game, but they should bounce back with a win against Olympiakos. The game will be tight, and we should see under 160 points in total. Anadolu will get the win by a margin of fewer than ten points to pile the misery upon Olympiakos.
