The NY Red Bulls will host the Chicago Fire at the Red Bull Arena in the MLS on Thursday.
The Red Bulls are fifth in the Eastern Conference as it stands. They have two more points than Toronto, who are in seventh place. Making sure of the playoff berth will be the priority for the Red Bulls. Their last game was the US Open Cup fourth-round match against New England. The Red Bulls were leading 2-1 late on, but New England scored the equalizer, and the game went into extra time. New England eventually got the winner to win 3-2.
The last league game also ended in defeat for the Red Bulls. New York were leading in this game as well. They were leading 2-0 at the interval against Philadelphia. Alejandro Romero and Brian White scored the goals for the Red Bulls. But Philadelphia scored thrice in the second half to clinch the three points. The defeat must have been a hard pill for the Red Bulls to swallow.
Despite that defeat, the league form of the Red Bulls is good. They have won four of the last six MLS games. In that run, they have kept three clean sheets as well. Coach Chris Armas will be hoping for more of the same against Chicago. Only one team in the Eastern Conference has scored more goals than the Red Bulls. Brian White has scored four, and he is their top scorer this season in the MLS.
Meanwhile, opponents Chicago are looking to get into the playoff spots. They are out of the top seven positions as it stands and have three points less than Toronto FC. A win should see Chicago equalizing the points with Toronto.
Chicago’s form in MLS has been poor recently. They have failed to win in the last five league games. Their last MLS win was a 2-0 result over Minnesota United in May. Since then, they have lost twice and drawn the rest. This run has seen them drop in the table.
Their last game was a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake. Aleksandar Katai gave Chicago an early lead, but Albert Rusnak rescued a point for RSL. That point has kept Chicago in eighth above Orlando who are just behind. C. J. Sapong started that game on the bench, but he is Chicago’s top scorer this season with six goals in the league. Fellow striker Nemanja Nikolic has scored five goals for the Fire this season.
NY Red Bulls vs Chicago Fire Prediction
The Red Bulls will go into the game as the clear favorites. Chicago are short on confidence, and New York should get the three points. The total goals should be greater than 2.5 in this game. Both teams should score as well. Goals will be plenty in this one, but the Red Bulls will get the three points at Chicago’s expense.
