Nice will host Bordeaux at Allianz Riviera to kick off the new round of fixtures in the Ligue 1.
After a disappointing losing run, Nice finally got back to winning ways last week. They hosted Stade Reims on Sunday in the league and recorded a 2-0 win. Wylan Cyprien and Christophe Herelle got the goals for Nice in the game. Reims had Moussa Doumbia sent off in the first half, and that proved to be a major factor in the game. Nice had six attempts on target and dominated the possession throughout the contest.
Before the Reims game, Nice had failed to win in the past six games in all competitions. One of those losses came in the Coupe de la Ligue where they faced Le Mans. Nice lost 3-2 to exit from the competition. The win against Reims pushed Nice to 13th in the table. They are four points clear of the relegation zone, which is safe for now. But coach Patrick Vieira will want that distance to increase further.
They finished seventh last season, and a finish in the top half is needed for Vieira. Nice scored only 30 goals in the Ligue 1 last season, which was a poor tally. Only two other sides had a worse attack last campaign. Their attack has improved this season, and Nice have netted 15 times in the 12 league games so far. Wylan Cyprien has been the main man, and he has four goals and two assists in the league to his name. The forwards in the team need to step up as well in the coming weeks.
Bordeaux are doing better than Nice, and they are currently sixth in the table. After two successive defeats, they have now won their last two games. First Bordeaux hosted Dijon in the Couple de la Ligue and won 2-0. Josh Maja opened the scoring inside ten minutes, but they could not get a second till late to seal the win. Substitute Nicolas de Preville scored in stoppage time to ensure Bordeaux’s progress to the next round.
Last Sunday they hosted Nantes and recorded another 2-0 win. Nantes are flying high this season, and it was an impressive performance from Bordeaux. Francois Kamano and Hwang Ui-jo scored in the game for Bordeaux. After finishing 14th last season, Bordeaux have started strongly this time. They are just two points below Angers who are in second place.
Nice have dominated this fixture in recent years. They are unbeaten in the last nine head to head encounters, winning five of them. The two matches last season ended in 1-0 wins for Nice on both the occasions. Allan Saint-Maximin scored the last time these two sides met.
