Match Info: THURSDAY MARCH 5, 7:30PM QUDOS BANK ARENA
The 3rd leg of the NBL 2019/20 semi-finals is being eagerly awaited. In the first game of the 3rd leg in the semis, Sydney Kings will be squaring off against arch-rivals Melbourne United. The high-octane semi-final clash will be a knock-out game and it will decide who will be the first finalist of this long NBL season. The other finalist will be decided in the second and last match of the semi-finals between Perth Wildcats and Cairns Taipans.
Sydney had finished at the pole position in the league stage while Melbourne finished fourth. The two teams clashed twice in the semi-finals stage. In the first leg, Sydney secured a comfortable 86:80 win at home. However, in the second leg, the Kings were walloped 80:125 by Melbourne on the road. This has now set up an exciting 3rd round semi-final decider which can go either way.
Sydney Kings Match Form
Sydney was the best team in the NBL 2019/20 and was atop the ladder for the entire season. They have great depth in the team and several match-winners who have performed collectively to take the team to the top position.
Casper Ware will of course be the star player to watch out for even though he hasn’t been the dominant offensive player he is known to be. Then there are the likes of Jae’Sean Tate, Andrew Bogut, Brad Newley, Shaun Bruce and Didi Louzada who have all scored big regularly, thus giving Sydney the most consistent benches in the league. New addition Xavier Cooks too looks impressive and may have an impact in the last semi-final.
Melbourne United Match Form
United had a less-than-ideal start to the season but found form at the right time as they charged into the semis towards the end. They have great talent and new recruits Melo Trimble and Shawn Long have been the star performers for the team this season.
Both the star players scored a combined 47 goals in the second semi-final against Sydney and were the main reason for that emphatic 45-point victory. Chris Goulding has done a fantastic job as the guard and will have a vital part to play in the finals. Another man to watch out for will be Mitch McCarron who has scored 46 field goals this season.
One of the drawbacks of United has been their defensive inconsistencies and this is where they can lose the battle in the decider semi-final match.
2019/2020 NBL Semi-Finals – Sydney Kings vs Melbourne Utd Betting Tips
Sydney Kings and Melbourne United have now faced-off 6 times in this season of the NBL and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses well. In those 6 encounters, Sydney has won 4 times while United has won twice. Playing at home, Sydney will obviously have an advantage and add their 12-2 record at home and you can feel why they should be regarded as favourites for this big clash.
However, Melbourne United has shown they can topple Sydney on their day and that thumping win in the second semi-final was evidence of that. They do have great individual talent but it remains to be seen if they can hardness it well on the big day again.
One cannot deny, though, that Sydney has more experience, depth and consistency. They made history this season after becoming the only team to lead the ladder at the end of all 20 rounds. All that hard work is unlikely to be thrown away and the home-court advantage will only go in their favor. Expect a close match, but back the Sydney Kings to seal their entry into the grand final.
