Sydney Kings have had a good time against Cairns Taipans in the last two years. They have now beaten the Taipans for seven straight games. The two teams clashed earlier in this season and Sydney registered a 79:71 win in that low-scoring game on the road.
Hence, when Sydney hosts the Taipans on December 8, they will start off as clear favorites. Sydney Kings have been easily the team to beat of NBL 2019-20. They are standing at the pole position at the points table with 11 wins and 2 losses – the least by any team this season. Cairns Taipans, meanwhile, are 6th on the points table with 5 wins and 7 losses.
Sydney Kings, however, would be hurting after their 77:96 loss against Perth Wildcats in the last game on December 6. They had won their 5 games in a row before their spree was halted by the impressive Perth on the road. That being said, Sydney will still be confident of taking down the Taipans from the comfort of their home where they haven’t lost a game this season.
The team has plenty of performers this season but none of them have been as consistent as Casper Ware who has a remarkable PPG of 21.25. Jae’Sean Tate, Kevin Lisch and Brad Newley have been the other players who have regularly scored for Sydney this season and are likely to do well again in this game.
Meanwhile, Cairns Taipans will be happy that they won their last match against Melbourne United. That win came after the loss to Illawarra Hawks on the road. In DJ Newbill (16.5 PPG), Cameron Oliver (16.5 PPG) and Scott Machado, the Taipans have a steady set of players performing over the season.
In their victory against Melbourne United too, it was these three who did the main scoring. Hence, the burden of doing the bulk of the scoring against a strong Sydney side will also fall on Oliver, Machado and Newbill.
At the time of writing preview, the Taipans have also registered a win against Breakers. Even a little slip from the Taipans and the Kings would be all over them.
Sydney Kings vs Cairns Taipans NBL Betting Tips
The Kings have won eight of their last 12 home games against the Taipans, and hence rightly start as favourites. However, it must be noted that the Taipans have improved their away performances and are the road underdog this season. They are likely to give tough competition to the Kings in this game and expect a tight contest that might well go down to the wire.
One thing that might go against the Taipans, though, is the Points Per Game which stands at a decent 89.92. But it pales in comparison to Sydney’s terrific 93.69 PPG. Sydney would be tough to stop at home where they have an unbeatable record this season. They would surely put behind their last game loss to Perth and look at this game to establish their top position.
Thus, considering their current form, consistency of players, strength in scoring and recent record against the Cairns Taipans, the Sydney Kings should be backed to be the winners of this contest.
