Adelaide 36ers vs New Zealand Breakers
The last two weeks have had contrasting fortunes for these two teams. While the New Zealand Breakers won three back-to-back games, the Adelaide 36ers lost two games in a row. Despite that, however, Adelaide is 6th on the points table with 8 wins and 9 losses. The Breakers, meanwhile, have moved to the 7th position with 7 wins and 10 losses.
The two teams have clashed twice in this season with Adelaide winning both the matches. When Adelaide had hosted the Breakers in October this year, they had registered a thumping 117:100 victory. This is a vital game for Adelaide to resurrect their fortunes and they will fancy their chances against the Breakers.
Adelaide are coming off a 86:94 loss on the road against Cairns in their last game. Jerome Randle, who has been the star for them this season, will have to take the responsibility again along with Daniel Johnson and Eric Griffin.
New Zealand Breakers improved greatly and clinched a wonderful 91:89 win on the road against Illawarra Hawks before a 90:84 win at home against S.E. Melbourne Phoenix In Round 12. They began Round 13 on an even better note after taking down Brisbane Bullets 99:96 on the road. However, Adelaide will be a different deal. Corey Webster and Scotty Hopson have shown great form in the last few games and they would have to be at their best here.
The last time these sides met, the game was decided by just 3 points. Moreover, 8 of the last 11-games between Adelaide and the Breakers have been decided by 1-10 points. We can thus expect another close game. Back the Adelaide 36ers for a close win in this match who are likely to drive their home-court advantage.
Melbourne United vs Brisbane Bullets
We can be in for a one-sided contest as the No.3-placed Melbourne and No. 8-placed Brisbane clash in Round 13.
Melbourne has begun Round 13 with a demoralizing 75:77 loss against Cairns Taipans at home. That loss would pinch them but shouldn’t make a great difference to the team which has already won 10 games in the season through solid all-round play. Melbourne has superstar performers like Melo Trimble, Shawn Long, Chris Goulding and Mitch McCarron. One would think they would be enough for a team like Brisbane Bullets.
The Bullets, after registering a thumping 87:80 win against Sydney at home in their last game in the last round, have started Round 13 on a disastrous note – losing 96:99 against the Breakers at home. They have now slipped to the 8th position and badly need a resurrection. Perhaps a special performance by Lamar Patterson and Nathan Sobey can make a difference for them.
Melbourne United and Brisbane Bullets clashed earlier this season where Melbourne had achieved a solid 108:94 win at home. Another point to note is that Melbourne’s Points Per Game this season is an amazing 97.53 while the Bullets are struggling with 89.75 – the second-worst of the season. This may well prove to be detrimental in this match.
The home advantage, overall strength and form make Melbourne United the favorites for this game. Back them to win this contest comprehensively.
