Dijon will aim to climb out of the relegation zone when they visit Nantes on Sunday in the Ligue 1.
Dijon are currently 19th in the Ligue 1 table, but survival is still within their reach. They have 28 points, and four games are left in the season. They are one point adrift of the relegation playoff place, and five below direct safety. Fellow relegation contenders like Monaco and Amiens are not in form, and Dijon can overtake them with a couple of wins.
Their recent form has been patchy. Dijon have won just two out of their last five league games. Last week they played Caen, in what was a massive game in the relegation picture. Caen were behind them before the game, but that changed after it. Dijon lost 1-0, and Caen climbed above them to go into the relegation playoff place. That result was a huge setback, and coach Antoine Kombouare will want to amend that.
Dijon have impressed in some games and their 3-1 win over Lyon three weeks ago is an example. Despite that, their defence has not improved. Dijon have conceded 51 goals this season, which is the third-most in the league. In the last 13 games in all competitions, Dijon have kept one clean sheet. That shutout came in a goalless draw against Amiens.
Meanwhile, Nantes are comfortable in 12th place as the season nears to its conclusion. They have 43 points, and a top-half finish is still possible. Nantes have been in great form of late. They have won their last four league games, scoring more than two goals in each game. That run included a 3-2 win over champions Paris Saint-Germain. PSG played a weak side in that game, and Nantes took full advantage to their credit.
Nantes played Marseille last week and claimed a 2-1 win. Samuel Moutoussamy and Andrei Girotto got the goals for Nantes in that game. Kalifa Coulibaly has been in on a good run for them, and he will lead the line against Dijon. Coulibaly scored twice in the recent win over Amiens. Nantes are three points behind Nimes, who are in 10th place. Coach Vahid Halilhodzic will be hopeful of bridging that gap and finishing in the top half in his first season at the club.
Nantes vs Dijon Prediction
If head to head record is any indicator, Dijon have the edge in this one. They beat Nantes when these two sides met in August, claiming a 2-0 win. In the last three meetings between these two sides, Dijon have won two and drawn one. Despite this head to head record, Nantes will be the favorites in this one due to their current form and position. Their home form is also strong, and that should spell trouble for Dijon.
Dijon are short of confidence right now, and Nantes should capitalize on that. A home win seems likely, but both sides should score in this game.
