MI vs KXIP Preview
It’s a bit strange to see that both the teams are coming off wins against the same opposition in their previous match. Mumbai beat Sunrisers in Hyderabad while Punjab got their win in Mohali.
If we go through the teams, it is hard to fault anyone in thinking Punjab is an outright underdog in this contest against Mumbai. But, when we dig deeper and look back at the recent results, we find that Punjab has been pretty much playing out of its skin and winning matches against oppositions that, on paper were more than a match for them.
Mumbai goes into this contest after impressive wins over CSK and SRH but at the same time would be wary of the fact that they lost their previous encounter against Punjab.
Form Guide (WWLWL)
It wouldn’t a far cry to say that Mumbai has been bailed out on multiple occasions to a respectable total by the fireworks from Hardik and Pollard and are struggling to score big at the top this season.
Alzari Joseph was a welcome surprise but putting all the eggs in one basket won’t do them any good. Ishan Kishan ahead of Yuvraj Singh made as much sense as playing Yuvraj Singh over Ishan, so maybe there might be some thinking on that part.
The team looks balanced, but all they need right now is some score from the top order because Hardik and Pollard can’t bail them out every time.
The player under the spotlight
It’s been a while since Rohit Sharma has played a “Rohit Sharma Special.” He’s been finding it tough to get going and hasn’t put together a big score this season. With the top order in a spot of bother, the team might be looking at Rohit to score big.
Kings XI Punjab
Form Guide (WLWWL)
Punjab already has every reason to be proud of their season until now. No one gave them a chance before the IPL 2019 began, but bit by bit they’ve kept on scoring wins after wins.
The team is in a pretty stable state with everyone from Gayle to Miller having a good knock under them. The pitch at Wankhede is similar to the one at Mohali (with slightly shorter boundaries). Punjab could field the same eleven that they did in the last game.
The player under the spotlight
When you look at Sarfaraz, he seems like a happy go lucky kid who’s enjoying his life and eating anything and everything under the sun. His frame betrays any suggestions or thoughts of him being a professional cricketer but put a bat in his hand and watch how things unravel.
He’s been amazing so far this season and already has a couple of the 50s in his kitty. The shorter grounds and a quicker pitch could be what he needs now to make another meaningful contribution in this tournament.
MI Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Keiron Pollard, Rahal Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Alzari Joseph, Jason Behrendorff
KXIP Probable XI: Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Mayank Aggarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravi Ashwin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammed Shami
Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI Punjab Prediction
Mumbai has had some formidable wins in its last two games and has a certain amount of momentum going for them. Punjab has surprised a lot of the teams, but it does look tough for them to replicate the same form against Mumbai in this encounter. Mumbai start as favorites for this one.
