MLS – Sunday, 23rd June 2019 – FC Dallas vs Toronto FC Preview and Prediction

Toronto FC will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to the Toyota Stadium to take on FC Dallas on Saturday.

In the last seven games they have played, Toronto has failed to record a single win. Due to that poor run, they have slipped to seventh in the Eastern Conference. Finishing there will be good enough to get into the playoffs, but they will want to move up the table. They have 19 points from 15 games, and the likes of Orlando City and Chicago are right beneath them. The race for the playoffs is a tight one in the east and Toronto can’t afford to slip up.

Toronto played Sporting Kansas City in their last game. The game ended in a 2-2 draw as Nick DeLeon and Jordan Hamilton got the goals for Toronto. Hamilton scored an equalizer in stoppage time to rescue a point for his side. That point has kept Orlando and Chicago a point below Toronto in the table for the time being.

Their last win came last month when they defeated Orlando City 2-0. Since then, they have picked up just three points. Alejandro Pozuelo and Jozy Altidore are the joint top scorers for Toronto, and both of them have scored five goals in the MLS this season. Toronto’s attack is the third-best in their conference. But their defense has caused them significant problems this season. If they keep a clean sheet, they will have a strong chance of winning against Dallas.

Dallas is in the other conference, and they are currently in fifth place. The battle for getting into the playoffs is tight in the west as well. The San Jose Earthquakes are in eighth, and they are just three points below Dallas. They have played 16 games so far, which is the most in the Western Conference for any team.

In their last game, Dallas won comprehensively. They played OKC Energy in the US Open Cup and recorded a 4-0 win. Dallas played out a 2-2 draw with the San Jose in their last MLS game. Francis Atuahene scored the decisive equalizer in that game for Dallas. In the last six MLS games, Dallas has won just once.

Dallas has scored and conceded 22 goals this season. They will need to make their goal difference positive if they want to sustain the current league position over a long time. Jesus Ferreira has scored four goals for Dallas this season in the league, which is the highest for them. Only two players have scored more than two goals for Dallas. The other is Reto Ziegler.

FC Dallas vs Toronto FC Prediction

The game will be a close one, and both sides will look for the win to put a lousy patch behind them. A clean sheet is unlikely to occur, and both teams should score at least once in the game. The total goals in the game should be more than 2.5. It will be an entertaining match, at least for the neutral.
