MLS: Chicago Fire vs Real Salt Lake Preview and Prediction

Chicago Fire will host Real Salt Lake at Toyota Park in the MLS on Saturday.

The Chicago Fire are in a tight race in the Eastern Conference for making the playoffs. They are currently 9th in the table. The seventh spot is the last one for the playoffs, and Chicago is two points beneath that. Toronto occupies the previous playoff spot presently. Chicago has won just four games all season. Only one team in the Eastern Conference has won less game, which is Cincinnati, who is in the last place.

Chicago lost their last game, which was a US Open Cup game against Saint Louis. Before that game, Chicago failed to win any of their previous four games. Their previous league game was against Atlanta United. Atlanta won 2-0 in that game as Josef Martinez scored a brace. In the last five games, Chicago has conceded 12 goals. They have failed to pick up a single win in that time. Chicago has scored one or less in four of those five games.

C. J. Sapong is the top scorer for Chicago this season in the league. Sapong has six goals this season, which is more than any player for the Fire this season. Nemanja Nikolic is close behind him with five goals to his name. Chicago has drawn six games this season. Only one side in the Eastern Conference has split points on more occasions.

The Fire will come up against Real Salt Lake, who is on the right side of the playoff qualification line. They are seventh in the Western Conference. RSL has 19 points, which is the same as San Jose. Real Salt Lake is in the playoff spot due to the tie-breaker. They will hope to pick up the win against Chicago to consolidate their place in the playoffs for now.

Their recent form has been poor, as they have lost the last three games. RSL faced LAFC in their previous game in the US Open Cup. LAFC won 3-0 to inflict an embarrassing result upon Real Salt Lake. Before that game, NY Red Bulls and Montreal Impact beat them in the MLS in two consecutive games.

RSL’s last win came against Atlanta United in the league. That result was their third consecutive win in the MLS, which took them into the playoff spot. Albert Rusnak is the top scorer for Real Salt Lake this season with five goals in the MLS to his name. Sam Johnson has also scored five goals this season for RSL. They will look for the three points against Chicago to stay in seventh place.

Chicago Fire vs Real Salt Lake Prediction

The game will be a close one, but Chicago should have enough to get the win. The total goals should be over 2.5 in this game. Both teams should score, and it should be an exciting game. RSL’s defense has not been great this season, and Chicago should take advantage to get the three points.
