FC Dallas will host the Vancouver Whitecaps at the Toyota Stadium in the MLS on Wednesday.
Fourth-placed Dallas will look for the win to take another step towards the playoffs. They have 25 points which are five more than what Real Salt Lake in seventh place have. Making the playoff spot safe will be the priority for Dallas right now. They will hope to build on last time’s 3-0 win over Toronto FC. Dominique Badji scored a brace in that game and Bressan scored the other goal.
Dallas have won two of their last three MLS games, scoring seven goals in the process. In between they played two US Open Cup games. They won the first of those, beating OKC Energy 4-0. Winning that put them in the round of 16, where they faced New Mexico United. Despite taking the lead through Brandon Servania, they lost 2-1 to bow out of the competition. Now they will focus on the MLS and making sure of that playoff spot.
In the last six MLS games, Dallas have won just twice. Both those victories have come in this month itself. The clean sheet against Toronto was the first in the league after seven unsuccessful attempts. Their last shutout came in a goalless draw against San Jose in April. In attack, the responsibility will be on Dominique Badji and Jesus Ferreira. Both of them are joint top scorers for Dallas with four goals each.
Dallas will face a team below them in the Western Conference. Vancouver are in 10th place desperately trying to qualify for the playoffs. The seventh place is occupied by RSL, which is the last playoff spot. Vancouver are a point below them. But two other teams, namely San Jose and Sporting Kansas City, are tied with the Whitecaps on points. The race for the seventh place is a tight one in the west.
Vancouver are unbeaten in their last five MLS games, but four of those have ended in draws. The solitary win was a 2-1 win over these very opponents. Vancouver beat Dallas when the two played last month. Two early goals from Ali Adnan and Lucas Venuto set them on their way to the victory. Badji got the consolation for Dallas in that game.
Since then, Vancouver have drawn the two games they have played. Nick DeLeon scored a late penalty for Toronto to deny the three points for Vancouver. In the last match, they staged the comeback against Colorado. Trailing 0-2 after 20 minutes, Fredy Montero and Yordy Reyna scored to rescue a point for the Whitecaps.
FC Dallas vs Vancouver Whitecaps Prediction
Vancouver are the lowest scorers in the conference, and they will find it hard against Dallas. The total goals in this one should be less than 2.5, and Dallas should get a close win. A clean sheet is also likely for Dallas as they will look to climb into third place with the three points.
