The Colorado Rapids will host leaders LAFC at DSG Park in the MLS on Thursday.
Colorado are last in the Western Conference, with a slight chance of making it to the playoffs. But there are plenty of teams between them and seventh place, which makes that mountain a high one to climb. Colorado have won just four games all season, which is the worst in the conference. Their atrocious defense has conceded 36 goals in 17 games this season in the league. Real Salt Lake have the second worst defense in the west, and they have conceded just 28.
Despite their weak league position, they have stitched a good run of results in recent weeks. Colorado are unbeaten in the last six MLS games, winning four of them. They had failed to pick up a single win in their first 11 games of the season. Their previous match was a 2-2 draw with Vancouver. Colorado were leading 2-0 after 20 minutes courtesy of goals from Diego Rubio and Andre Shinyashiki. But Vancouver scored twice after that to rescue a point.
Kei Kamara failed to score in that game, but he has found the back of the net eight times in the league this season. Shinyashiki is the second on the list for Colorado with four goals. A win could take Colorado as high as eighth, but other results will have to go their way. Their playoff hopes are still alive, and continuing this unbeaten run against LAFC will help massively.
LAFC have been on another level this season. Led by Carlos Vela, they have lost just one out of their 16 games this season. They are comfortable in the first place, six points clear of LA Galaxy in second place. Vela has scored 16 goals this season which is the most in the MLS. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is second on the list with 11. No player in the league has more assists than the ten which Vela has recorded.
The Mexican play-maker is reaching new heights this season. As for LAFC, their last defeat came against Vancouver in April. Since then, they have won 7 out of the ten matches they have played, drawing the remaining. Their previous game was a US Open Cup round of 16 games against San Jose. LAFC won the game 3-1. Their grip on the first position is tight, and they are showing no signs of slipping up. Colorado will have their work cut out when they will host them on Thursday.
Colorado Rapids vs Los Angeles FC Prediction
Both sides are in good form, but LAFC should get the three points against Colorado. They possess the best attack and the best defense in the league, and it should show. The total goals in this one should be greater than 2.5. Each of the last four games of LAFC has seen three or more goals. Colorado will find it hard to score, and a clean sheet is also likely for LAFC along with the win.
