The Milwaukee Bucks will host the Miami Heat in their first home game of the season.
The Bucks traveled to Houston to face the Rockets in their season opener. After trailing for most of the first half, the Bucks mounted a comeback. Houston led by 16 points at half-time, and it looked as though they were on course for the win. However, the Bucks had other ideas. They outscored the Rockets 67-45 in the second half to get the opening win. As expected, Giannis Antetokounmpo was the star for Milwaukee.
In just 28 minutes of play, Antetokounmpo totalled 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. He was brilliant throughout the game and got to the basket at will. The Rockets could do little to stop when he drove into the paint. Antetokounmpo fouled out in the latter stages after committing his sixth foul, and it appeared as though the Rockets had a chance to claw back. But the other Bucks took care and got the win. The likes of Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton did the job for Milwaukee in the dying minutes.
Lopez and Middleton scored 11 points each in the game. All of Milwaukee’s starters scored more than 10 points, as well as Pat Connaughton and Ersan Ilyasova from the bench. Ilyasova had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and he sank some clutch shots down the stretch. Wesley Mathews played the first game for his new team, and he had 14 points in 30 minutes of action.
The Miami Heat also won their opening game. Memphis were their opponents, and Miami claimed a 120-101 win. The Grizzlies were leading by a point going into the third quarter, but the Heat exploded later to get the win. They outscored Memphis 37-17 in the final period. Justise Winslow starred for Miami, and he had 27 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds. Rookie Kendrick Nunn also impressed on his NBA debut. Nunn scored 24 points to lead his side to victory.
Jimmy Butler missed the Memphis game due to personal reasons, but the rest of the squad stepped up in his absence. Goran Dragic started the game on the bench, but he finished with 19 points. In his place, rookie Tyler Herro got the start, and he scored 14 points on his debut. Butler will not travel to Milwaukee, but coach Erik Spoelstra will be confident with the rest of his squad.
Nunn and rookie Chris Silva made the impact in the fourth quarter for the Heat. The duo scored 19 points in the quarter on 8-10 shooting to give their side a boost. It’s still early, but the Heat have some promising young talent on their roster.
