A new-look Memphis Grizzlies will host the Chicago Bulls in their first home game of the new season.
Memphis faced the Miami Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena in their season opener. They fell to a 120-101 loss against the Heat. Rookie Ja Morant made his debut for the Grizzlies, and he scored 14 points in 25 minutes on the court. Morant also had 4 rebounds and 4 assists in his NBA debut. The guard was drafted second in the 2019 draft by the Grizzlies. Morant played his college basketball at Murray State.
Second-year player Jaren Jackson Jr. top-scored for the Grizzlies with 17 points. He averaged 13.8 points last season with Memphis, shooting 50.6% from the floor. Veteran Jae Crowder scored 13 points, and Tyus Jones added 15 from the bench. Jonas Valanciunas started the game for Memphis, but he played just 16 minutes. Dillion Brooks also started but did not feature much as the game progressed. Coach Taylor Jenkins could be tempted to give Jones the start instead against Chicago.
The game against the Heat was competitive in the first three quarters. In fact, Memphis led by one point going into the fourth quarter. But Miami outscored the Grizzlies 37-17 in the final period to get the win. The major reason for this was 24 turnovers by Memphis in the game. However, they can take positives from the game, starting with the debut of Ja Morant. Brandon Clarke also impressed, and the duo should play bigger roles in the coming games.
The Bulls also lost their opening game, but by a very close margin. They faced Charlotte, and the Hornets claimed a 126-125 win over Chicago. Lauri Markkanen was the main man for Chicago, and he had 35 points and 17 rebounds. It was a huge performance from the forward, but it was not enough to get the win. Zach LaVine had 17 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds in the game. He had the chance to get a quick basket late on, but he wasted time, and the Hornets ran out the clock to get the win.
The Chicago bench was impressive and bailed out a few under-performing starters. Coby White and Thaddeus Young both scored 17 points to keep the game competitive. Point guard Kris Dunn also added 11 from the bench. Chicago shot 46.7% from the floor, and just 30% from three-point range.
On the other hand, the Hornets made 23 three-pointers, which was a franchise record. The Bulls need to shoot better if they want to improve on last season. Markkanen was brilliant, and LaVine should step up to support his partner.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Chicago Bulls Betting Tips
The Grizzlies are still finding their feet, and Chicago should take advantage to get their first win of the season. The total points should be under 226.5, and it will be a close game. Memphis will make it tough as they are at home. But Chicago should get the win by a margin of fewer than 10 points.
