Second-placed Marseille will visit the Stade des Costieres to take on Nimes in the Ligue 1 on Friday.
Marseille Match Form
Despite losing their last game, Marseille are still comfortable in second place in the table. Rennes in third place are eight points below them as it stands. Leaders PSG have a lead in double digits, and the title race is all but over. But Marseille can make it to the Champions League by finishing high in the table, which they failed to do last season. Marseille finished in fifth place last campaign and did not make it to any European competition.
Before last week’s loss against Nantes, Marseille were on a three-game winning streak. In fact, they were unbeaten in their last 14 league games before falling to Nantes. Anthony Limbombe gave Nantes an early lead, but Morgan Sanson scored the equaliser for Marseille. Nantes scored twice in the second half to get the win, which included a goal in stoppage time. Marseille had more of the ball and more shots on target, but they failed to get anything from the game.
The loss won’t be a big worry for coach Andre Villas-Boas – provided they bounce back soon. Villas-Boas has done a great job at the club in his first season in charge. His side have scored 36 goals, which is among the top five sides in the league. An improvement on last season is all but guaranteed, and his side will play in the Champions League next season.
Nimes Match Form
Nimes also lost their last game after stringing together a winning run. They have won four out of their last five league games. That winning run significantly improved their chances of avoiding relegation. They are now in 18th place, five points clear of Amiens below them. Dijon in 17th place are ahead just on goal difference. Nimes faced Rennes this weekend and succumbed to a 2-1 defeat. But they did not go down without a fight.
Nolan Roux scored for Nice in the first minute of the game, but M’Baye Niang equalised soon for Rennes. Defender Anthony Briancon was sent off for Nimes in the second half, and Rennes took the upper hand after that. Despite staunch resistance from Nimes, Rennes got the winner through Niang in the closing stages. Nimes have improved of late though, and they will be in high spirits against Marseille despite the loss.
Marseille and Nimes have met thrice in the last few years, and Marseille have won two of those meetings. Nimes won the first encounter after they were promoted courtesy of a 3-1 result back in 2018. But Marseille have claimed the last two wins by a combined 5-2 scoreline.
Nimes vs Marseille Betting Tips
They will be the favorites again this time as well. Nimes are in the bottom three, but they will make it tough for Marseille. Both sides should score in this one, and Marseille will need to grind out the victory at the Stade des Costieres.
