Lille will host Lyon as two of the top four in the Ligue 1 will play each other on Sunday.
Lyon Match Form
After a couple of strong results, Lyon are right back in the mix for European places. They were languishing in the bottom part of the top half until recently. But a couple of wins has put them back in fourth place. Now they are six points behind third-placed Lille. The top three will get Champions League football for next season. Lyon finished third last time to get into the competition, but it will be tougher this time around to replicate that.
They are still going strong in the current Champions League campaign. Juventus are their round of 16 opponents, and the Italians visited Lyon last week. Lyon claimed a narrow 1-0 win before the second leg in Turin. That game will be arguably Lyon’s biggest one of the season. Their league form has improved of late, which has given them confidence on the European stage. However, they lost heavily in the last game they have played. PSG beat them 5-1 in the semi-final of the French Cup. The score was 1-1 in the second half, but a red card for Fernando Marcal changed the game entirely.
Before the loss against PSG, Lyon were unbeaten in five straight games. They beat quality teams like Juventus and Marseille in that time. Now that unbeaten run is broken, but their confidence will still be intact. A win against Lille could be a huge step towards Champions League qualification. Rennes in third place are seven points clear as it stands.
Lille Match Form
Lille are in good form as well, and they have won four out of their last five league games. The only loss in that time was a 2-1 defeat against second-placed Marseille. Lille won the other four games without conceding a single goal. On the other hand, they scored seven themselves. Another clean sheet against Lyon seems unlikely. Lyon have one of the best attacks in Ligue 1 with 42 goals so far.
These two sides met in January in the semi-final of the Coupe de la Ligue. Mousa Dembele and Renato Sanches scored early on for Lyon and Lille respectively, and the score was 1-1 till late in the game. Houssem Aouar scored in the 85th minute, but Loic Remy equalized in stoppage time for Lille. In the end, Lyon prevailed on penalties after Sanches missed for Lille.
Lyon will now face PSG in the final of the competition in April. Lille have won three out of the last six league meetings between the two sides. The other three have ended in draws, and Lyon’s last win came back in 2016.
Lille vs Lyon Soccer Betting Tips
This game is tough to call, as both sides are in a good stage in their respective seasons. The total goals should be Over 2.5 in the game as both sides are likely to score. A draw seems like the probable result, which will be a positive outcome for Lille compared to Lyon.
