Brest will host Amiens at the Stade Francis-Le Ble in the Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Amiens Match Form
Amiens are on a terrible run as it stands, and they have not won in their last five league games. It was in the reverse fixture in which Amiens got their last La Liga win. A goal from Ferney Otero was enough to seal the win on that day. Since then Amiens have failed to catch a foothold in the league. Their last game was against Stade Reims, and it ended in a draw.
Dereck Kutesa gave Reims the lead before Moussa Konate rescued a point for Amiens with the equalizer. Amiens had just 38% possession in the game, but they had three efforts on target. After that draw, Amiens find themselves in 18th place, which is the relegation playoff spot. Metz are a place and two points above them as the relegation battle is a close one.
After facing Brest, they have a huge relegation clash with Toulouse coming up. A win in that fixture would boost their survival chances massively as Toulouse are last in the table. Amiens have the second-worst defence in the league as they have conceded 39 goals in 20 games. Their last clean sheet came in the first week of November.
Brest Match Form
Courtesy of a resounding win in their last game, Brest are safe for now from the relegation trouble. They are in 14th place, seven points clear from Amiens. Brest faced Toulouse two weeks ago and thrashed them 5-2. Yoann Court gave Brest an early lead, but Bafode Diakite scored twice in quick succession to give a 2-1 lead to Toulouse. Till late in the second half it looked as though Toulouse were on course for a much-needed win.
But Brest scored four times in less than 15 minutes to seal the win. Gaetan Charbonnier scored twice to add to the goals from Hiang’a Mbock and Irvin Cardona. Brest had 15 efforts on goal in the game, out of which 9 were on target. The win was their first in four games and catapulted them up the table. Brest had lost three games in succession before facing Toulouse, and the win meant a lot.
Cardona is their top-scorer in the league with four goals, and three players have netted thrice as well. Goals are coming from many sources for Brest, which is a good sign for coach Olivier Dall’Oglio.
The last game between these two sides ended in a 1-0 win for Amiens. Brest were promoted this season itself, which is why they did not play Amiens last campaign. Tracing back to the season before, Amiens have won the previous five games between these two.
