Promoted side Lecce will host Udinese in the Serie A as they look to start the new year on a high.
Lecce Match Form
The season started brightly for Lecce, but their form has dropped off recently. After just one win in their last five league games, they sit in 16th place in the league. Lecce are just a point clear of the relegation zone as it stands. Brescia in 18th place are a point below Lecce. The likes of Sampdoria and Fiorentina are in the relegation battle as well with Lecce.
In the last two games, Lecce have conceded six goals. They faced Brescia three weeks ago, and it was a pivotal game in the relegation battle. Brescia won 3-0 to close the gap to Lecce. Despite having less of the ball in the game, Brescia had the game in control for the most part. Lecce faced Bologna in the last game of December. Bologna claimed a 3-2 win in a game in which they led 3-0 after an hour.
Lecce have conceded a staggering 13 goals in their last four games in all competitions. Their last win was a 1-0 result over Fiorentina in the first week of December. That game aside, clean sheets have been rare for Lecce. They have the joint-worst defence in the league this season. No side has conceded more goals in the Serie A than Lecce, and bottom side Genoa are level with them. Tightening up their defence will be one of the first things on the mind of coach Fabio Liverani.
Udinese Match Form
Udinese are 14th in the table, three points above Lecce. They are not out of the relegation picture either, but a win in their last game dampened those fears. A 2-1 win over Cagliari was the perfect way to sign off for the winter break for Udinese. Rodrigo De Paul scored the opener before Seko Fofana sealed the win for Udinese. Those three points stopped a four-game winless run for Udinese.
A poor offence has been the major reason for Udinese’s low league position. They have scored just 13 league goals in 17 games so far. Only SPAL have scored fewer in the entire division. Due to that, Udinese have the second-worst goal difference in the league. Kevin Lasagna and Stefano Okaka are the joint top scorers for them with three goals apiece. The strikers need to step up for Udinese to rise in the table.
Last Meetings and Lecce vs Udinese Betting Tips
These two sides last met in 2012, when Udinese claimed a 2-1 win over Lecce. Udinese have won five out of the last six encounters between these two outfits. The only Lecce win in that time came by virtue of a 2-0 result in 2011.
A repeat of that result is unlikely, as Udinese will be favorites to pick up the win. The total goals should be under 2.5, as Udinese have a poor offence. A clean sheet is likely for Udinese and Lecce will find it hard to score in the game.
