Serie A: Juventus vs Atalanta Preview and Prediction

Juventus will look to dent Atalanta’s Champions League hopes when the duo clash at the Allianz Stadium in the Serie A on Sunday.

The hosts have already wrapped up the Serie A back in April, winning their 8th consecutive Scudetto. However, their form has slightly gone off the boil since then.

The Bianconeri have 89 points from 36 games this season, 13 points off Napoli in 2nd place. Juventus are out of remaining cup competitions, with Atalanta knocking them out of the Coppa Italia back in January while Ajax stunned them in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

However, Massimiliano Allegri is set to leave the club at the end of the season. Thus, his players would look to win their last home game of the season to give their manager a proper send-off.

Coming to their opponents, Atalanta are the in-form side in the Serie A. La Dea have everything to play for as they continue to fight for a top-four spot. Their momentum was partially halted by Lazio in the Coppa Italia final as the latter ran away 2-0 winners.

However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are yet to lose a league game since their back-to-back defeats to Milan and Torino in February. In that run, Atalanta have picked up wins away at Napoli and Lazio while holding Inter to a draw at the San Siro.

No wonder, they are currently 4th in the table, with 65 points from 36 games. They trail 3rd-placed Inter Milan by a single point while AC Milan and AS Roma are just 3 points behind them. Thus, La Dea will look to pick up maximum points in their next two games to ensure they play in the Champions League next season.

Team News

In terms of team news, Mattia Perin, Sami Khedira, and Douglas Costa are ruled out of the match while Mario Mandzukic is a doubt for the game.

For Atalanta, Jose Luis Palomino is suspended while Gianluca Mancini returns from suspension. Rafael Toloi is the only injury absentee.

Team Form and Juventus vs Atalanta Prediction

In terms of form, the visitors are in much superior form than the league champions. Atalanta are unbeaten in their last 11 games while Juventus have won just once in their past seven games across all competitions. Further, the famed Bianconeri defense has failed to register a clean sheet in any of their last eight games in all competitions.

However, Juventus are unbeaten at home this season. They have suffered just two defeats all season, both in the UCL to Manchester United and Ajax respectively. Further, the home side possessed an impeccable record against their visitors before this season, winning 22 of the 28 meetings between the teams and losing none.

Atalanta have, however, turned the tables this season, drawing the reverse fixture 2-2 while beating the Old Lady 3-0 in the Coppa Italia. However, both those results came at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

Juventus have won their last ten home games against their visitors in all competitions. However, they are in a slump at the moment, having not won any of their previous three league games.

Thus, this could turn out to be a close game, and both teams could share the spoils in the end.

Predicted Line-ups:

Juventus Predicted XI: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Sandro; Can, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschni, Dybala, Ronaldo

Atalanta Predicted XI: Gollini; Mancini, Djimsiti, Masiello; Hateboer, Freuler, Roon, Castagne; Gomez, Ilicic; Zapata
