IPL 2019 Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview and Prediction

Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2019 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata is a team buoyed by home support and a lot of passionate support. They’ve got a good core unit and a unit that can, on its day, destroy the opposition. An opening combination of Lynn and Narine is breathtaking, to say the least (I guess everyone does remember the 100 runs off 6 overs that the duo made). Then they have Shubhman Gill, Nitish Rana and Uthappa to provide some semblance of stability to the side with Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell blasting off in the end.

The bowling unit too looks pretty settled with great options to pick from. Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, and Narine provide great variety while Lockie Ferguson’s pace could come in handy.

The question though, for a team like KKR is consistency. Will the team be consistent enough to deliver those killer blows which it is capable of?

The player under the spotlight

It’s fair to say that other than the Big Bash, the world of cricket has not seen the best of Chris Lynn. He can and he should be able to contribute a lot more than what he has done till now and if he does, the opposition better takes cover.

Probable XI: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Shubhman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Ideally, Sunrisers should be the team to beat in this tournament with the kind of depth they have in every department. In a way trading Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t been too big a loss for them as they gained Vijay Shankar out of it and he could provide decent stability in the middle overs and would be useful on the pitches in Hyderabad.

The question mark though could be on one guy who would have all the eyes on him as he makes his return to an arena somewhat of a similar scale to International Cricket. Everyone would be curious to see what change is evident in the David Warner that played earlier and the one who would be taking the field after serving a year-long ban.

The player under the spotlight

Could there be a spot bigger than the one already on Warner. In the limited exposure that he has had to cricket the world has seen him develop a new skill where he bats right-handed as well. In all, if Sunrisers need to stamp their authority then David Warner needs to do the business on the field with that Gray Nicolls bat of his.

Probable XI: David Warner, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Wriddhiman Saha, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Billy Stanlake

Home advantage and a pretty balanced side versus a team slightly under the wind with a captain who might take a few cautious steps before flourishing on the stage means although it would be a tight contest KKR might just be edging the tourists in this one.
