Head to Head: DC 9-13 KKR
DC Vs KKR Preview
It’s a slightly strange matchup where two teams with very impressive fast bowling attacks are going to battle against each other on a track that is not really conducive for fast bowling. It’s a bit strange to see a team that has two of the more dominating figures in cricket in Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting not able to influence the kind of pitch they get to play on.
Looking at the form and the two teams you’ve got to wonder whether KKR is one of the strongest teams on the field in this IPL with the way they’ve been batting in this tournament. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell have been the standouts for them as both have helped in turning the course of the match each time. All in all with the presence of Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav to supplement a fast bowling attack of Prasidh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson and Andre Russell you have a bowling line up suitable for all seasons.
This is where Delhi Capitals are slightly on the backfoot, the team on paper doesn’t have the depth of Kolkata but in the right conditions Delhi can surely take the fight to Kolkata and beat them as well. In Rabada, Ishant and Boult they have an amazing bunch of fast bowlers while on the batting front the presence of Dhawan, Shaw, Iyer, Ingram, and Pant can really cause havoc. But for that to happen, they need the right conditions. If Kotla provides the same slow and dry pitch as it did against CSK, you can expect the Knight Riders to run away with this one.
It was a strategic blunder by the Delhi team to field a slow track against CSK. The team would be looking to make amends and maybe find a way to fit Boult in the team. On the batting front, Shikhar Dhawan who has been playing the role of an anchor really went into his shell in the previous game and put a lot of pressure on the batsmen around him. He’ll need to pace his innings better because a 47 ball 51 didn’t really do the team a world of good.
Once again Delhi would be looking at its match-winners to bring the game home for them, a special knock similar to the 93 not out last year by Shreyas Iyer would do(and maybe some fireworks from Pant?).
The player under the spotlight
Prithvi Shaw, for the limited time he’s stayed in the middle, has looked enterprised, calm, and in top form. The issue though is the lack of conversion of those good starts to something big which Delhi needs badly. DC would be looking at him to kick on because if the openers provide a good launchpad it could ultimately make things easier Pant and Co to score heavily in the end.
Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer (c), Colin Ingram, Axar Patel, Keemo Paul, Rahul Tewatia Trent Boult/Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma
Kolkata Knight Riders
For now, the fallings of the opening partnership has been taken care of by the superb form of Nitish Rana who has really just taken the opportunity provided to him and ran with it. But at some point, the team think-tank might just be looking at what they need to do with Chris Lynn if he doesn’t contribute. Maybe Promoting Shubhman Gill to the top could be an option as he’s not really getting any time in the middle.
With as many as 6 front line bowling options KKR might just field the same team and keep the momentum going.
The player under the spotlight
Chris Lynn really needs a score to get some confidence back in his batting. He’s comparatively happier facing the pacers so it might be good news for him as he goes up against the likes of Rabada and Ishant.
Probable XI: Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana, Robin Uthappa, Shubhman Gill, Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna
IPL 2019 DC Vs KKR Preview and Prediction
KKR with a much better bowling line up and better depth in batting start as favorites as the team is well suited to all kinds of conditions. Unless something special is pulled out of the bag by any of the Delhi stars KKR would hold the edge in the contest.
If the team batting first can put up a score in the region of 160 then the opposition will have to really dig deep to get that. But then again, can you put anything beyond Andre Russell these days?
