Head to Head: CSK 12-7 RR
CSK vs RR Preview
In essence, Rajasthan hasn’t really played that badly but where they have lagged is in their ability to seize the important moments in the game. They pretty much had the game in the bag against Punjab but they blew it after Butler’s dismissal and against Hyderabad, the bowling could never make the impact and they failed to defend the total. The batting order is in form right now and playing at a slow pitch like the one in Chennai that is very important. An issue for Rajasthan could be the slow bowling reserves which might just be the biggest difference between the two teams
CSK, on the other hand, would be playing in familiar conditions with their side stacked with spinners that would perfectly suit the conditions. They will be wary of some really good players of spin in Butler, Rahane, Samson, and Smith in Rajasthan’s top order but it’s not something that they haven’t dealt with before.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK is one well-oiled machine in the IPL and the conditions in Chennai certainly give them a further leg up. There aren’t too many headaches that the team has encountered until now but it would be interesting to see how they fare on the more traditional batting friendly pitches. For now, though, their current lineup looks like a winner against RR.
The player under the spotlight
Harbhajan Singh like many other veterans seems to be enjoying a second coming of sorts is this season and he’ll be back bowling on the surface he grabbed a Man of the Match just a couple of games earlier. “Bhajji Pa” on his part would be looking to make a further impact on what is the only chance he gets to shine on the big stage.
If there is one place where Rajasthan would regret not having a quality spinner in their side then it has to be Chennai. The team is really lacking in the spin department and by the looks of it, Ish Sodhi should get a game here in place of Jofra Archer who has been a bit off in this tournament until now.
The player under the spotlight
Ajinkya Rahane could hold the key to victory in this game not only because he’s in form but also because on a pitch like the one in Chennai you’ll need the opener to stick around as long as he can. If Rahane is able to hold one end up and keep a decent run rate going CSK could be put in a spot of bother.
Probable XI: Ajinkya Rahana, Jos Buttler, Steve Smith, Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi, Shreyas Gopal, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ish Sodhi, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni
Even though there were complaints from all quarters for the pitch in Chennai after the first game it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see a complete turnaround in terms of pitch characteristics. The pitch would most probably be a slow one and should extensively favor the spinners.
IPL 2019 CSK vs RR Preview and Prediction
The IPL odds are heavily tilted in favor of CSK for this one as the conditions and the momentum are both in the team’s favor. Unless a Butler or a Smith pull something extraordinary out of their hat it would be very tough for RR to stop the CSK juggernaut.
