The Pacers will look to build on last season when they host the Pistons in the opening game of the new NBA season on 23rd October 2019 at 23:00 UTC.
Indiana have finished with a 48-34 record in each of the last two seasons despite facing many difficulties in that time. Last season they lost star man Victor Oladipo to injury in January, and the guard is still recovering. They coped well in the regular season without Oladipo, but his absence was felt keenly in the playoffs. Celtics were their opponents in the first round, and Boston won the series 4-0 in convincing fashion.
It was the fourth straight time when Indiana bowed out in the first round. The streak extends all the way to 2014, when they lost to Miami in the conference finals. Oladipo was traded to the Pacers in 2017 when Paul George went to Oklahoma. He won the Most Improved Player award that season as he averaged 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. This season he will have Malcolm Brogdon alongside him to form a formidable back-court.
Brogdon was signed from the Bucks in a sign-and-trade deal. He will have to carry much of the load in the early stages while Oladipo makes his return. Brogdon will have the likes of Myles Turner and Jeremy Lamb to assist him in that time. Both Bojan Bogdanovic and ad Thaddeus Young are not there, which means that Domantas Sabonis will have to make the jump to the starting lineup.
The Pistons made the playoffs last season after a two-year drought. Since 2009, they have played in the postseason only twice. They finished eighth in the east to narrowly get into the playoffs last season. Dwayne Casey’s side will be in the running for clinching a playoff spot again. Much of their squad is the same, except for the addition of veteran Derrick Rose.
Former MVP Rose has never been the same after a host of injuries plagues his career. But he bounced back last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rose averaged 27.3 minutes and 18 points per game. He also shot 37% from the three-point line, which is a new tool for Rose. The rim has always been a strong area of his finishing, but now his long range seems to be effective as well.
Aside from Rose, the Pistons have a strong trio in their lineup. Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, and Reggie Jackson will headline Detroit’s playoff push. Griffin averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists last season. But he was not healthy for the first-round loss against the Bucks in the playoffs. Milwaukee swept the Pistons 4-0, just like the Cavaliers did in 2016.
Indiana Pacers vs Detroit Pistons Betting Tips
The Pacers will need to integrate new players into their lineup, and the Pistons have a great chance to exploit that. Detroit should get a close win to begin their season on a winning note. The total points should be less than 226.5, but the Pistons should get the win nonetheless.
