India vs West Indies 3rd T20I Match Preview
It was expected that this West Indies team would run India close. They did so in the first T20I of the 3-match series. And even after losing that game, they came back strongly in the 2nd T20I and went on to comfortably win it by 8 wickets.
Chasing a strong total of 171 on a sticky wicket, the West Indian batsmen showed their brutal power and six-hitting ability again to finish the game with 9 balls to spare.
India vs West Indies Series at a Glance
The series is now nicely poised at 1-1 with the final of the game scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on December 11. The home team will now be a little concerned as for the second game in a row they put up a scratchy performance.
West Indies, meanwhile, will be delighted that have ended their 7-match losing streak against India and will be heading into the decider with renewed confidence.
India’s Match Form
India’s T20I issues don’t seem to get resolved. They start slowly and they never seem to finish with a flourish when they bat first. Their bowling appears to struggle in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and their fielding has become too sloppy in recent times.
In the 2nd T20I, India dropped two catches in the 4th over of the West Indian innings and gave away plenty of runs courtesy misfields. They would have to address these issues fast before the final game.
In the batting department, India would expect Rohit Sharma to come good as he has had two off games. Shreyas Iyer too has failed in this series and would want to contribute. Shivam Dube scored a fine 54 in the last game on being promoted up the order and he might continue that role. Skipper Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant do bring solidity to the middle-order.
India’s bowling has been a disappointment. Deepak Chahar, Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have bowled well in patches. Yuzvendra Chahal has been expensive and Ravindra Jadeja has been ineffective.
West Indies’ Match Form
West Indies, meanwhile, are relying on their power-hitting to sail them through. Lendl Simmons’s unbeaten 67 in the 2nd T20I was a match-winning one. Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard give them an explosive batting order and they will again be a major threat to India.
Their bowling has been led by the impressive Sheldon Cottrell. Khary Pierre, Hayden Walsh, Kesrick Williams and Jason Holder have done a decent enough job.
India vs West Indies, 3rd T20I: Cricket Betting Tips
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is a high-scoring venue. The pitch there is usually a lovely batting deck where batsmen can simply hit through the line. Totals of 200-plus has been achieved thrice on the venue with 230-8 by England v South Africa in 2016 being the highest one.
West Indies had beaten India at the Wankhede Stadium in the 2016 ICC World T20 while chasing a daunting total of 192. What’s more is that a lot of the Windies players, including Pollard, Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons, are used to playing on this ground regularly courtesy of the IPL and are used to the conditions pretty well.
Thus, the West Indies would have the edge in this clash – because of the brute power-hitting they posses and because of the likely flat nature of the pitch. A placid surface will give the Windies a clear advantage as their batting prowess will overwhelm India’s average bowling. Expect another high-scoring match with the total runs scored being 380-400.
While India will have the home advantage, they seem too scratchy and unsure of how to go about a T20 match. West Indies, meanwhile, are reveling in their power-hitting. Hence, back the West Indies to win the 3rd and final T20I and with it the series.
