India vs West Indies, 3rd ODI Match Preview
As was expected, Team India made a strong comeback in the 2nd ODI against the West Indies and registered a thumping 107-run win to level the series. After having lost the 1st ODI, India badly needed to win the second game to keep the 3-match series alive. Thankfully, their top and middle order fired on all cylinders as they posted a mammoth 387 runs on the board.
West Indies had no chance and now the series is nicely poised at 1-1 with the 3rd and final ODI at Cuttack on December 22 to be the decider.
Team India Match Form
After what must have been a long time, India’s batting unit delivered from all corners. Led by opener Rohit Sharma’s sparkling 159 and KL Rahul’s stylish 102, India had an outstanding start of 227 runs. Despite another failure by captain Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (53* off 32 balls) and Rishabh Pant (39 off 16 balls) ensured that India galloped to a strong total. Iyer now has 6 fifties in 9 ODI innings and his presence has really given the Indian middle-order some stability.
India’s bowling was decent with pacer Mohammed Shami and spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took a hat-trick, being the impact makers. India dropped a few catches again and the likes of Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were expensive. These holes would have to be plugged before the final ODI.
West Indies Match Form
The West Indian bowling simply didn’t have any answers to the might of India’s batting in the 2nd ODI. Lead seam bowler Sheldon Cottrell and spinner Roston Chase were punished severely and barring Jason Holder, none of the other bowlers could keep the runs in check. However, Khary Pierre, Keemo Paul and Keemo Paul showed traces of great talent and maybe the surface at Cuttack in the 3rd ODI will suit them better.
Their batting showed promise with Shai Hope (78 off 85 balls) delivering another classy knock and Nicholas Pooran (75 off 47 balls) almost threatening to take the game away. West Indies still have great depth in their batting as Evin Lewis and Kieron Pollard are yet to fire. And they would hope that they would get to deliver in the final ODI.
India vs West Indies, 3rd ODI Betting Tips
The Barabati Stadium in Cuttack has seen some tall totals in recent years with India’s 381-6 v England in 2017 being the highest one in recent times. However, in that very game, England came close to the target by ending on 366-8. This shows that the surface here remains true throughout and is a good one for batting.
Expect another high-scoring game in the 3rd ODI at Cuttack between India and the West Indies. India will begin as favorites for this match as they would be high on confidence and they are playing at home. West Indies would fight hard and may again trump India with their batting force. However, it would be prudent to back India as the winners of the 3rd ODI.
