India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Match Preview
Team India was taken by surprise in the 1st ODI of the 3-match series against the West Indies as they registered a comfortable 8-wicket win. Even though India posted a solid score of 287 on a sticky wicket, the West Indian batsmen had no difficulties and made full use of the insipid bowling by India to chase the target down with 13 balls to spare.
The Windies have now taken a 1-0 lead in the series with this commanding performance and have given Virat Kohli and his men a serious blow before the 2nd ODI. The series is now interestingly poised with the second game on December 18 becoming extremely crucial.
Team India Match Form
India, the home team would have expected to win the first ODI of the series comfortably given their performance against the West Indies in the format in recent times. However, they went back to their old ways in ODI cricket one again, looking scratchy with the bat and insipid with the ball.
India put up a healthy total of 287 courtesy fifties from Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. But both of them got out at the wrong time and yet again India couldn’t finish with a flourish in a limited overs game.
In their bowling, India suffered from going with just 4 main bowlers. Leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and seamer Deepak Chahar were the only two Indian bowlers who managed to keep the Widnies batsman under check. Mohammed Shami conceded plenty of runs and Ravindra Jadeja looked flat. Kedar Jadhav and Shivam Dube were horrible in the role of the part-time 5th bowlers and were punished. India would have to think quickly to sort their bowling unit out before the next game.
West Indies Form
The West Indies were surprisingly good with both the ball and the bat in the 1st ODI. They bowled good lengths and didn’t allow the Indian batsmen to get away in the death overs. Sheldon Cottrell led the way, with Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph and Hayden Walsh doing a good job.
Shimron Hetmyer magnificent 139 and Shai Hope’s unbeaten 102 were the highlights of the West Indian innings. Nicholas Pooran played a good cameo and with Roston Chase, Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder to follow, they have enough arsenals in their batting tank.
India vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: Cricket Betting Tips
India has now lost 4 ODIs in a row at home (1 against the West Indies + 3 against Australia earlier in the year). They are clearly struggling to get their ODI unit in shape; a problem they were facing even in the World Cup in England this year.
Their top-order failed in the 1st ODI and the bowling looked listless. They would have to put up a stronger performance in the 2nd ODI if they hope to keep the series alive. West Indies looked stable and strong in all departments. They have finally managed to beat India in an ODI after 6 games and will be confident of repeating the act in the next game.
Expect a close and high-scoring match at Visakhapatnam in the 2nd ODI as the venue always produces big totals – the highest total here is 356-5 by India against Pakistan in 2005. The last time India and the West Indies played at Visakhapatnam, the match ended in a tie as both the teams ended up scoring 321.
West Indies thus will have an edge in the 2nd ODI. But expect India to come back strongly in the match and square the series.
