Cricket Match Preview:
India and Bangladesh have produced some fantastic cricket in recent years, at least in the limited overs format. The two Asian teams have gone on to become intense rivals with India generally holding the upper hand. However, Bangladesh have been punching above their weight consistently. Even in the recent T20I series between India and Bangladesh, the Tigers managed to thump a sloppy India with great confidence.
The upcoming two match Test series between India and Bangladesh might hence be exciting. The first match of the series begins from November 14 at Indore and both teams would be eager to draw first blood.
Test cricket, though, is a different beast. Team India has been in peach form in the longest format of the game and are currently leading the ICC World Test Championship Table by some distance with 240 points in 5 Tests. At the other end is Bangladesh who are coming off a humiliating Test defeat at home against Afghanistan. In fact, Bangladesh’s record in Test cricket has been pretty average barring a few wins at home.
Against India, especially, Bangladesh have been really poor. Till now, India and Bangladesh have clashed 9 times in Test cricket with India winning 7 matches and 2 games being drawn. It will take a herculean task from Bangladesh to beat this Indian Test team at home.
Led by the dynamic Virat Kohli, India are doing exceedingly well. They swept South Africa 3-0 recently and will be eager to eliminate Bangladesh. New Test opener Rohit Sharma, who was scored over 500 runs in the series against South Africa, will be the batsman to watch out for. The others who can have an impact on this Test are Mayank Agarwal, along with Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
India’s bowling has shown excellent variety with the seamers Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav showing great promise and picking up wickets regularly. The spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – will most certainly be taking the bulk of the workload.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, won’t have things easy. After Shakib-Al-Hasan’s ban, new captain Mominul Haque would have a huge responsibility to marshal his resources with maturity. With senior batsman Tamim Iqbal too having opted out of the tour, the responsibility will also fall on Liton Das and Mahmudullah. Otherwise, their batting looks quite frail.
Bangladesh’s bowling too has struggled in recent times. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam are expected to be the main spinners who should do well on this Indore pitch. Seamer Mustafizur Rahman will have a massive responsibility of leading the bowling unit. If he doesn’t get a wicket early on, then he might really be punished.
Overall, this Bangladesh bowling line up doesn’t look threatening enough against India’s batting might.
Match Betting Tips – India vs Bangladesh, 1st Test:
The Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore has seen only one previous Test – between India and New Zealand in 2016. It was a high-scoring game from India where they posted a mammoth 557-5 (dec.) and won the match by 321 runs.
The pitch for the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh should be a true Indian surface – good for batting early on and assisting the spinners from the 3rd day on. The team batting 1st is expected to score more than 350 runs. However, scoring runs in the final innings will be difficult.
India start as overwhelming favorites for this Test match. They have the home advantage and are in supreme form at the moment. Bangladesh may show some fight, but one should back India to be the winners of this Test.
