Team India is on a roll at the moment. They are leading the ICC World Test Championship Table by some distance and have already earned more than 200 points in their kitty. After successfully thrashing South Africa at home in the 3-match Test series, India’s next Test assignment is the 2-match series against Bangladesh. The first match of the series begins from November 14 at Indore and hosts India would undoubtedly begin as hot favorites for the game.
There have been 9 Tests played between India and Bangladesh so far with India winning 7 matches and 2 games being drawn. Bangladesh has hence never beaten India in a Test and it looks unlikely that the record will change when they take on a strong India at home for this Test.
Led by Virat Kohli, India has a batting unit whose top-order is in amazing form. The biggest strength for India is the outstanding form of new Test opener Rohit Sharma who struck three hundreds in the series against South Africa, including a career-best 212. Captain Kohli too struck a majestic career-best 254* in the series. Opener Mayank Agarwal, along with Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja would be the other ones to watch out for.
India’s bowling has really evolved into its best at present. The seamers – Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav – have really found their rhythm on these docile tracks. The two spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – will continue to trouble the opposition.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will have to brace for a tough challenge. They have had a horrible year in the longest format of the game and were even defeated by Afghanistan at home in September this year.
Captain Shakib Al Hasan would have to lead from the front in both the batting and bowling departments. He will rely on the experience of Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah too. Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das may play a role too.
Bangladesh’s bowling has been a big letdown in the recent past and they rely too much on their spinners and the surface to assist spin bowling to do well. Apart from Shakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam or Mosaddek Hossain are expected to be the other two spinners trying to unsettle the Indian batting. Bangladesh will also depend on Mustafizur Rahman’s seam bowling who has plenty of experience of playing in India now.
Match Prediction – India vs Bangladesh, 1st Test:
There’s only been one Test played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore – between India and New Zealand in 2016. After posting a mammoth 557-5 (dec.) in the 1st innings, India went on to win that game by 321 runs. It will be interesting to see how the pitch at the Holkar Cricket Stadium behaves in the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh.
The team batting first should score more than 350 runs and batting will be tough for the visitors in the 2nd innings as the pitch worsens. However, it is likely that India will post more than 450 runs in their 1st innings and then put pressure on Bangladesh. For the visitors, it will be difficult to score more than 350 runs in either innings.
Team India is too strong at the moment and have got all bases covered. They are playing at home and enjoy on overwhelming record over Bangladesh who seemed to have slipped badly in the format. Hence, India are the favorites to win this clash.
