India and Bangladesh have produced some scintillating encounters of late – the Nidahas Cup T20 final in 2018 being the most thrilling one in recent times. In fact, India-Bangladesh games, especially those of the shorter formats, have attained a new and exciting level of rivalry.
Hence, when Bangladesh tour India for a 3-match T20I series, we can expect some pulsating and thrilling action. The first T20I of the series will be played at Delhi on November 3. Hosts India will begin favorites for the match for more than one reason. For starters, in the last 5 T20Is between India and Bangladesh, the Men in Blue have won all 5 games. In fact, Bangladesh has never beaten India in a T20I yet in a total of 8 matches so far. Furthermore, India will be playing at home and they are one of the toughest opponents to face on home soil.Embed from Getty Images
Led by Virat Kohli, India has a solid all-round squad. In Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India have two of the best limited overs batsmen in the world today. The others who can make an impact are Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Krunal Pandya.
India’s bowling has plenty of options. Young seamers Deepak Chahar and Navdeep Saini have been very impressive and would be taking the charge. Washington Sundar has been excellent with his off-spin in the Powerplay overs and may play a huge role. Then there is Krunal Pandya who takes wickets and restricts the opposition.
Bangladesh have hence got their task cut out. Captain Shakib Al Hasan is expected to play a definitive role both with the bat and the ball. However, the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah would have to chip in with the bat to really challenge India.Embed from Getty Images
Bangladesh’s bowling has been unimpressive in recent times. In these flat pitches, they really have to be at their best. Mustafizur Rahman would be leading the bowling department and he would look to get breakthroughs early on. Left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny and fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain, who have been recalled into the squad, might do well. Apart from Shakib, seamer Mohammad Saifuddin too would have to be good.
Match prediction- India vs Bangladesh, 1st T20I:
There have been 5 T20Is played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the venue for the first T20I between India and Bangladesh. The wicket here is generally good for batting early on and assists the spinners as the surface becomes slow.
The average first innings score here is 157 and the average second innings score here is 143. The highest team total on the venue has been 202-3 by India v New Zealand in 2017. The team batting first should get in the range of 170 and the combined team total in this match should be around 300-320.
While Bangladesh is a fighting team and will certainly push India, the home side is too string at the moment. They have all the bases covered and look in great confidence. Team India should hence emerge as the winners of this match.
