Match: India vs Australia, 1st ODI, Australia tour of India, 2020
Date, Time and Venue: Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 08:00 AM GMT at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
After having thumped Sri Lanka 2-0 in the recently concluded T20I series, India will begin their next home assignment of the season as they host Australia for a 3-match ODI series. India’s form has been terrific in this home season and they have won comfortably against Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
However, Australia will be of a different mettle and will give them some serious challenge. The first ODI is scheduled on January 14 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and we are in for an exciting and high-scoring game.
India has had some good match form and confidence riding into this series. The likes of captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been among the runs and they are expected to do the bulk of the scoring. India’s lower middle-order is still fragile with Kedar Jadhav and Rishabh Pant being inconsistent performers and it would be interesting to see how they fare.
The return of Jasprit Bumrah adds plenty of meat to the Indian bowling unit. Mohammad Shami is another potent choice and the form of young fast bowlers like Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini gives India plenty of options. In the spin department, chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav is expected to take the lead role.
Australia has a solid all-round side and would be eager to make a mark straightaway. They have a terrific and powerful batting lineup led by Aaron Finch along with fellow opener David Warner. Both of them play in the IPL in India and would be well versed with the wicket here. Then there is Steven Smith, young batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne and the fantastic Alex Carey who should make an impact.
Australia’s bowling is even more potent with the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. These three alone could pose some serious challenge for the Indian batsmen.
India vs Australia, 1st ODI: Cricket Betting Tips
In the last 5 ODIs between India and Australia, the Men in Blue have won 2 games while Australia has won 3. The last time these two clashed was in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England where India clinched a high-scoring game. The two teams have produced some exciting close games in the recent past and expect the same in the first ODI.
The Wankhede Stadium is a high-scoring ground where the ball does a little bit for both the seamers and the spinners. The highest total achieved here is 438-4 by South Africa. But in the 1st ODI between India and Australia the total number of runs scored should be in the range of 580-600 runs.
Australia has a really solid side and has the ability to take India on. Their only issue is that they wouldn’t have any time to acclimatize to the conditions before the first game begins. Once they do, they might well push India down and exploit their fragilities.
For now, India will begin as favorites for the 1st ODI as they have the home advantage, a solid team and good form going into the series. Back India to win this contest but don’t rule out a serious challenge from Australia.
