Team India staged a terrific comeback in the 2nd ODI against Australia and leveled the 3-match series 1-1 after a solid 36-run win. India had looked scratchy and tentative in the first match where they were completely outplayed by a strong Australia.
However, they corrected their issues and posted a mammoth 340-6 on being asked to bat first. It was a robust and much-needed performance which has now opened up the series. Things are now nicely set up for the 3rd and final ODI at Bengaluru on the 19th of January which will decide the winner of the series.
India Match form
There were many heroes in India’s victory in the 2nd ODI. Shikhar Dhawan’s 96, skipper Virat Kohli’s 78 and Kuldeep Yadav’s 2 wickets in over were all detrimental. However, it was the magnificent 80 off 52 balls by KL Rahul that proved to be the game-changer for India. The opener was pushed to bat at No.5 and it was his classy yet whirlwind knock that pushed India to a giant total that eventually proved out of reach for the opposition.
The Indian bowlers too were largely impressive on a flat deck and kept pushing Australia back with regular wickets. Jasprit Bumrah appears to be gaining rhythm. Mohammed Shami was expensive but he also bowled some terrific yorkers towards the end to seal the game for India. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were also decent. The flat pitch at Bengaluru might test them, though.
Australia Match form
Australia’s bowling let them down in the 2nd ODI as Mitchell Starc conceded 78 runs in his 10 overs and Pat Cummins too went wicketless. Kane Richardson was also expensive and perhaps it is time Australia considered replacing him for the more experienced Josh Hazelwood. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa, though, impressed again and was the pick of the lot with figures of 3-50.
Australia’s batting largely revolved around Steven Smith (98) and Marnus Labuschagne (46). The others failed to make a big impact. This also exposes the fragility in their batting. If the openers David Warner and captain Aaron Finch fail, the Australian lower middle-order might come under severe pressure again.
India vs Australia, 3rd ODI: Cricket Betting Tips
The M.Chinnaswamy Stadium is known to be a batting paradise. Totals of 300-plus have been achieved here as many as 15 times with the highest one being 383-6 by India against Australia in 2013. Expect another run feast in the 3rd ODI between India and Australia here.
The team batting first would be targeting a total in excess of 300-320 to be safe. Even that might not be enough as chasing will be easy because of the dew and short boundaries. Bowlers will struggle and batsmen will make merry on this pitch and the combined total may well go above 600 runs for the match.
India looked much better balanced and confident in the last game. The home advantage will also favor them in the 3rd ODI. Australia will come hard again and might stump India again. However, India has shown in the recent past that once they get into a rhythm they are hard to stop. Thus, back India to win this contest and with it the series as well.
