An out of form Cagliari side will visit Genoa on Sunday in the Serie A.
Cagliari Match Form
After a strong start to their season, Cagliari were in strong contention to qualify for Europe this season. After the last month, their chances for the same have taken a big hit. Cagliari are winless in their last five league games. They are still sixth in the table, which is a Europa League spot for next season. However, the catching pack with the likes of Parma and Milan have come close. Both Parma and Milan have the same points as Cagliari as it stands.
Cagliari have not won in their last nine games in all competitions. The fact that they are sixth in the table despite this is hard to believe. Their last win was a 2-1 win over Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia in early December. Since then they have drawn four and lost five. Cagliari’s last game was against close rivals Parma. The game ended in a 2-2 draw as Joao Pedro and Giovanni Simeone scored for Cagliari. They were leading until stoppage time, but Andreas Cornelius netted a late equaliser to rescue a point for Parma.
Some poor defensive performances have been the major reason for dropping so many points recently. Cagliari have now conceded 34 league goals in 22 games, which is not a good record. They need to get back to winning ways quickly, or their hold on sixth place will vanish.
Genoa Match Form
Genoa are at the other end of the table as they are battling relegation. After going four games without a win they are in 18th place. It looks as though their stay in the top flight is under threat this campaign. Genoa have been in the Serie A for six seasons after earning promotion in 2014. Last season they finished in 17th place and avoided relegation just on goal difference. Empoli dropped to the Serie B instead after a close battle which went to the last week.
They are in a similar position this time. Lecce in 17th place are three points adrift as it stands. Genoa have won just thrice all season in the league. A host of draws has meant that they are not worse off at this stage. Genoa’s last game ended in a 2-2 draw against Atalanta. Not many expected Genoa to get something from the game, but goals from Domenico Criscito and Antonio Sanabria rescued a point for Genoa.
Cagliari vs Genoa H2H & Betting Tips
Both Cagliari and Genoa have won twice in the last five head to head meetings. The other game ended in a 1-1 draw last year. However, Cagliari have won two out of the last three, including a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
They will be the favorites to pick up the three points again. Cagliari’s recent form has not been good, but they have the caliber to bounce back against Genoa. The total goals in this match should be over 2.5, as Genoa will make it tough. But Cagliari will get a close win to get back to winning ways.
