Fulham vs Manchester City Preview and Prediction

Manchester City will look to regain the top spot in the Premier League when they travel to Fulham on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side did not play last time in the league due to FA Cup commitments, and Liverpool’s win put them at the top of the table. City trail the Reds by two points, but they do have one game in hand.

The Cityzens are in incredible form in recent months, and they have won 19 out of their last 20 matches in all competitions. With the League Cup already in the bag, Guardiola is gunning for the quadruple. They beat Swansea City in their last game in the FA Cup, which put them through to the semi-finals.

Fulham are on the other end of the spectrum, and they are all but relegated as it stands. The London side is 19th in the table, 13 points clear of safety with 9 games to go. They are set to depart to the Championship after just one campaign in the top flight, and current boss Scott Parker can’t do much about it. The least they can do is give their home fans some good performances as the season ends.

Last time’s defeat to Liverpool meant that they have lost 11 of their last 12 games in all competitions, and City can make that figure worse. Parker must see the remaining 9 games as an audition for the permanent job next season. He is currently at Craven Cottage on an interim basis, as he succeeded Claudio Ranieri from the spot of assistant manager.

Fulham vs Manchester City Preview and Prediction

In spite of City’s deep squad, Guardiola has some injury concerns to deal with. Nicolas Otamendi is ruled out, while both Vincent Kompany and John Stones are doubts to face Fulham. Aymeric Laporte is the only fit centre-back at his disposal, and Stones could be ushered to a quick return due to the circumstances. The likes of Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, and Benjamin Mendy are also doubts to start the game.

Raheem Sterling is in the form of his life, and he scored 4 goals for England in the international break. Andre Schurrle will hoping to feature for Fulham, as he is recovering from an illness. Tom Cairney should keep his place, and Ryan Sessegnon will be pushing for a start as well.

City’s attack has scored more than 2.5 goals per game this season, which spells danger for Fulham. Also, the Cottagers have the worst defence in the league. They have conceded 70 goals all season, which is the most. Couple these two records, and we could be in for a goal-fest.

Guardiola’ side has scored 17 goals in their 4 games against promoted sides this season. They will face Fulham and Cardiff this week, which could inflate that number even further. Fulham have scored in their last three games though, which included Chelsea and Liverpool. The game should see over 3.5 goals in total, and Manchester City are expected to roll to a comfortable victory.
