Two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum will face off when FC Cincinnati host LA Galaxy at the Nippert Stadium on Saturday.
Cincinnati has the worst record in the entire MLS. They have won just three games and sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Despite their poor record, they won their last game. It was the first leg of the US Open Cup clash against Louisville City. Fanendo Adi and Kekuta Manneh scored the goals to give Cincinnati a 2-1 win. That win helped to get over a prolonged losing slump for them.
Before the game against Louisville, Cincinnati had lost four consecutive games. Their last league win came in May when they beat Montreal Impact 2-1. Since then, they have not picked up any points. In those four games, Cincinnati has conceded 15 goals. In two games they let in five goals. Those goals were against Orlando and New York City, respectively. In the last four games, Cincinnati has scored just four goals.
Their defense has been a significant worry for them all season. Cincinnati’s last clean sheet came way back in March against New England. Only one team in the entire MLS has conceded more goals than Cincinnati’s 33. That team is the Colorado Rapids, who have conceded 34 goals so far. Their attack is by far the poorest, and they have scored just 14 league goals all season. Cincinnati is eight points below the last playoff place, and getting it is all but impossible.
They will come up against one of the better sides in the MLS in the form of Los Angeles Galaxy. LA Galaxy has 28 points, which puts them in second place in the Western Conference. They have won 9 games and drawn just one, which is the least among all sides of the conference. Orange County FC was their last opponents as the two faced off in the US Open Cup. LA Galaxy won 3-0 with relative ease. Efrain Alvarez got a brace in that match.
The LA Galaxy lost their last league match against New England Revolution. Despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late goal, they lost 2-1. Ibrahimovic is the leading goalscorer for LA Galaxy this season with 11 goals. Carlos Vela is the only player in the MLS who has more goals than the Swedish star. Vela has scored 16 goals this season so far.
Ibrahimovic is their crucial player without a doubt. However, he has received little help from his fellow attackers. Daniel Steres is behind him in terms of goals for Galaxy with just three strikes to his name. They have scored 22 goals all season, which could be improved.
FC Cincinnati vs Los Angeles Galaxy Prediction
LA Galaxy will be the overwhelming favorites for this game. They should get a comfortable win to consolidate their position in the second spot in the Western Conference. The total goals in the game should be more than 2.5. Cincinnati will find it tough to score, and a clean sheet is also likely for LA Galaxy.
