Leaders Barcelona will travel to the Mediolanum Forum to face Olimpia Milano in the EuroLeague.
Barcelona were knocked out in the first round of playoffs last season by Anadolu Efes. The Spanish side has started strongly this time, and they stand first in the table after five games. Tuesday’s 83-77 win over Valencia was their fifth consecutive one in the competition. Cory Higgins and Nikola Mirotic combined for 37 points to hand their side the victory. Barcelona trailed at the end of the third quarter, but they came back in the last period to get the win.
Barcelona’s first three EuroLeague wins of the season came by an average margin of 24.3 points. They scored 103 points in a win against Alba Berlin, which is the second-most this season in regulation for any team. Mirotic has had an impressive season so far, and he is averaging 19.4 points per game. Kyle Kuric and Cory Higgins are also contributing to the scoring charts. Barcelona are going strong in the Liga ACB as well, where they are placed third.
Their last league game ended in an 89-83 loss against Tecnyconta Zaragoza. Barcelona finished as runners-up last season to arch-rivals Real Madrid in the league. The title race is tight this time as well, with the likes of Zaragoza and Bilbao also looking good. After five consecutive wins, Barcelona are in a great position to make the playoffs in the EuroLeague. After missing out for two seasons, they made the postseason last time. Coach Svetislav Pesic will hope that his side can do the same again this time.
Milan have also started the season impressively. They have lost just one game out of five so far. That loss came in the opening game when they faced Bayern Munich. Bayern beat them 78-64 to claim a comfortable win. Since then, Milan have been brilliant in the EuroLeague. They beat Alba Berlin 81-78 on Tuesday to claim their fourth straight win in the competition.
Three of those wins have come by a margin of four or fewer points. This will be a bit of a worry for coach Ettore Messina. Their offence has been great, but they have been letting in too many points on the other end. Fortunately, Milan have played well in the fourth quarter to get some close wins. But it will be tough to keep on getting wins of that nature.
In contrast to the EuroLeague, they have not impressed in the Serie A. Milan are eighth in the table courtesy of three wins out of six. But they are on a three-game winning streak, which will give them confidence ahead of the Barcelona game.
Olimpia Milano vs Barcelona Prediction
Despite playing away from home, Barcelona will be favorites to keep their winning run going. Milan will give a tough fight, but Barcelona have enough to get the win. The total points in the game will be over 150 and Barcelona will get the win by a close margin.
